Thanks to a number of architectural
competitions held in Ostrava, it is
possible to save and repair valuable
historical structures, as well as to
build new, architecturally valuable,
buildings. Especially the cooperation
with the MAPPA studio, which gives
Ostrava urban integrity. The studio also
helps investors to better understand and
anchor their idea when implementing or
constructing a building. Thanks to this
symbiosis and valuable, technologically
advanced urbanistically anchored
buildings can be created.
For example, the historically valuable
Slaughterhouse building was saved and
its new look was created by the Polish
architect Robert Konieczny. It now houses
the PLATO contemporary art gallery.
By contrast, a completely new building
was opened in February this year by
the University of Ostrava on the banks
of the Ostravice River. The new City
Campus Ostrava serves both students and
the public.
The entire waterfront along the Ostravice
River is becoming a popular place for
relaxation and active recreation. You
probably haven't missed the newly
opened footbridge connecting the centre
of Ostrava and the area of Dolní Vítkovice,
designed by the Czech Architect Josef
Pleskot. Other follow-up projects for
the area include the urban study of
Černá louka, the project of the Professor
Koutský Bridge and the planned creation
of a new district 'Pod Žofinkou' directly on
the banks of the Ostravice River.
The list is not exhausted yet. In autumn,
we will see the completion of three
highly anticipated buildings. This is
the finalization of the reconstruction
of the run-down building of Textilia
Ostravica, which will now be known as
Boutique Business Incubator Ostravica.
Next, the Grossmann Villa, built in the Art
Deco style, will be completed. Its salvage
came truly come just in time. And last
but not least, the new Organica office
complex will be opened, which is being
built in close proximity to Nová Karolina,

Public space in Ostrava is currently ourishing. The local trac situaon is improving and residents
are learning to use other forms of transport. Bikesharing is already an integral part of Ostrava's
streets, and according to the Nextbike app, Ostrava is one of the most successful cies in its use.
Even Ostrava's public transport is one the most modern in the Czech Republic. A new blue-green
infrastructure "cookbook" has also been created.
