From OSTRAVA
to the World and Back Again
Actually, I'm an absolutely typical
representative of "Generation Y". After
graduating from technical school, I became
interested in practically everything except
technology. My magnet was in the field
of media. After a few years, living abroad
in Europe was not enough for me, so my
next stop was New York. However, in the
world of interesting work, entertainment
and travel, something was lacking for me.
The view of Grand Place couldn't compare
with Beskydy and the blast furnaces in
the foreground. Also, the meetings lacked
a mood framed by the words: "Effort is
not cokeable." Therefore, a return to my
hometown of Ostrava became inevitable.
Society likes to refer to us as "millennials".
According to sociologists, we are
a generation that is lazy and overly sensitive,
but also confident and highly flexible.
We seek not only financial gain, but also
seek to have meaning in our jobs. We love
challenges, demand a higher standard of
living and have a strong desire for personal
fulfillment. In short, we are perhaps
the most closely watched generation.
Perhaps, this is due to the fact that we are
the generation that will be responsible for
the economic base of our economy over
the next thirty years, and many of us are
running away from that responsibility –
whether that be to Prague or even further
away. However, just as in the fairy tales
Honza went out into the world, we too are
returning back. Like the fairy-tale Honza,
we return either with a bride, with a bag of
money, or preferably with both. Therefore,
if I can set a goal for myself as a member
of the editorial board, that goal is to make
POSITIV Business & Style magazine the
wise fairy-tale grandmother, the clever jay,
or the sweet Madlenka with common sense
who tells Honza, "It's time to go home."

Also, the meetings

Ostrava became inevitable.
