Na návštěvě u Sigmunda Freuda-Visit at Sigmund Freud’s

Visit at Sigmund Freud’s A personality of a world’s calibre is inseparably connected to the history of Příbor. It is here where the founder of psychoanalysis - Sigmund Freud - was born on 6th May 1856. The relationship between the town of Příbor and the name of Sigmund Freud is evidenced by the memorial plaque on his birthplace, which was put up while he was still alive and well in 1931. The famous psychoanalyst considered this event to be a great honour for him and he didn’t forget to comment on it in the letter addressed to the town mayor. Even though Freud spent just three earliest years from his childhood here, he remembered these moments as his happiest: “One thing I am sure of is that deep inside me, under many layers, the happy child from Příbor still lives, the first born son of a very young mother, who from this air, from this home land absorbed his first, unforgettable impressions.” The renovation of Freud’s birthplace took place under supervision of the Regional Office of the National Heritage Institute and thanks to that it was returned to its original form from 19th century. The multimedia exposition then invites visitors for a tour, guided by Sigmund Freud’s voice. A symbolic sight of the town is also a copper examination sofa, which you can see right in front of the museum. Text: Šárka Kůrková Foto: město Příbor www.freudmuseum.cz POSITIV 4/2020 ǀ 85
