Thanks to the implemented solution,
information about machine operation,
produced units and the allocation and
usage of the tools on the machine and
their lifetime became more accurate-everything is uploaded to the SAP system
through new interface directly from the
controller unit of the workcenter. This
allows for higher accuracy in tracking of
usage and lifetime of utilized hi-tech tools.
Visualization of the production status on
a large screen
awareness of the current status, the
next goal was set to visualize summary
information comprehensively per every
machine, including the current OEE
(overall efficiency of equipment usage).
This application is primarily intended for a
large screen, but can also be opened on
the supervisors’ or management monitors.
Provided application helps to identify
the status and emergency situations
on workcenters quickly. Tiles for each
machine are displayed, showing in form
of colors, text and a stripe diagrams
information about machine name,
worker, order number and product
specification, order amount, quota
achievement, machine status--current and
in 24-hour summary, and its OEE. That is
an important help in the identification of
factors that could decrease equipment
As the main implementing partner for
the solution was chosen the S&T CZ
company. Its responsibility started from
detailed initial analysis and design,
over realization of the applications
and prototype preparation, to go-live
and support of the pilot operation and
later move to normal operation. During
implementation, S&T collaborated also
with the supplier of the technology
solution for collection and processing of
the data from machining centers.
In the paperless production project scope
were delivered twenty applications for
mobile terminals and one application for
summary data display on a large screen.
All applications are direct extension to the
SAP system, which is used on a long-term
basis in Dormer Pramet. The basis of the
solution is the time-proven S&T product
SAP FRONTO, used in many companies
for warehouse, logistics and production
process automation. The solution is built
as open and can be further expanded to
other workshops or to other machines,
or for other production, logistics or
maintenance processes. Solution delivery
also contained setup for saving documents
to SAP DMS and support for activating
related SAP workflows.
Currently, the solution of paperless
production is in the pilot operation on five
workcenters and it is planned to be rolled
also to other workplaces. Finally, as topic
related to current COVID situation, we
can note that most of the work was done
And what does the customer say?
“The new solution is in the pilot operation
so far, but we can already see that it will help
us manage production more operatively.
Thanks to the direct connection to the
machines’ controller units, manual data
entry was limited and we have data
available more quickly and more precisely.
This is valid also for tracking of utilization
of special expensive tools, where a more
accurate evaluation of their wearing might
bring interesting savings,” concludes the
project manager for Dormer Pramet.
