You Will Not Learn Language by Swoting...

Language is a natural tool of communication. It is necessary to approach its teaching in the same

way. Why are schools criticized for bringing only a passive knowledge of a second foreign language?

How to learn a language naturally? What‘s the difference?

Schools often forget the most important ones with their

style focused on the use of textbooks and artificially

created texts. Language is a natural system, so it should

be transmitted in a way that reflects this property.

By confronting the Czech educational system with the

international ones in our country, at the 1st International

School of Ostrava, it follows that the inclusion of natural

original materials, texts, music, level reading, projects,

etc. in teaching is absolutely inseparable. The need

to overcome the barrier formed by the application of

traditional textbooks and their chapters focused on the

intensive development of monothematic vocabulary

is becoming increasingly clear. We find that teaching

based only on separate thematic blocks does not take

into account how a person speaks naturally.

After all, only a few hundred basic words are enough

for basic communication between people. It is stated

that up to 65% of written materials in everyday

communication contain only 300 basic words. Why not

use them? So what is our priority in the 21st century? To

be able to speak actively or to learn as many words as

possible about „restaurant“? Polyglots do not swot up

for the language monothematically, they live by it.
