My personal favourite is the Centre for Energy and
Environmental Technologies – Explorer (CEETe).
This project is a European one-of-a-kind thanks to its
innovative technical and technological approach. It
also plays a significant role on the VŠB-TUO campus,
contributing to the region’s transformation and the
transition to a post-coal era. One of the centre’s main
missions is to explore the use of various hydrogen
sources as zero-emission energy, as well as research
into energy utilisation through pyrolytic combustion.
The architectural design of the building is fully
subordinated to its technical function, yet it does
not give up on a distinctive and unmistakable visual
identity. It stands as a brilliant example of how modern
architecture can have a positive impact on our
surroundings. It’s no surprise that it was awarded both
the Governor’s Prize of the Moravian-Silesian Region
and the Ministry of Industry and Trade Award.
I don’t have a specific favourite as a single building;
rather, I would highlight an approach worthy of being
followed, which is exemplified by the Grand Prix winner
of the 18th edition the Community Service House in
Palkovice (municipal office). It demonstrates a thoroughly
considered concept in the revitalisation of a building
that holds importance for the local community. A highly
refined example of contemporary architecture can be
seen not only in the reconstruction of the municipal office
itself, but also in the related and adjacent public space.
For me, it’s probably the building that received the Expert
Jury Award – the New Rychtá in Úvalno. I found it very
charming and beneficial for the municipality. It serves as
a strong community hub for residents and operates 24/7.
With the announcement of the 19th edition of the
competition, a new opportunity arises for architects,
investors, and construction companies to showcase
their work.
What stood out to you about the winning
projects of the 18
th
edion, and what, in your
view, sets them apart from the other entries?
Do you have a personal favourite among this
year’s award-winning buildings?

Among the many high-quality entries of the 18th
edition, I would highlight two projects that caught my
attention for their comprehensive design. The first is
the Community Services Centre in Palkovice, which
was awarded the main GRAND PRIX prize. This project
stands out for its modern architectural concept that
sensitively respects the surrounding environment and
the needs of the local community. Its multifunctional
nature offers a wide range of services in one location,
enhancing comfort and quality of life for the residents
of Palkovice. The second project received the top
prize in the industrial buildings category: TRAFIN OIL
– Processing of Edible Oils and Fats in Horní Suchá. It
is dedicated to the environmentally-friendly processing
of used edible oils and fats, contributing to sustainable
waste management and their transformation into
valuable products—achieved with highly sophisticated
use of input energy and minimal waste generation.
These two projects stand out for their ability to combine
aesthetic value with functionality and community or
industry benefit. Their innovative approach and high-
quality execution make them exceptional compared to
the other entries.
The overall quality of the submitted buildings is very
similar, making it extremely difficult to select a favourite
in the awarded categories. In many cases, a project
wins by just a single vote from the jury. It was an
exceptionally strong year. We are pleased to see that
a lot of construction is happening – and, above all, that
it is of high quality.
