Business and Sport in One Team?
Leading the Peloton
Tomáš Hess, Commercial Director of HSF System and a Board Member of the investment holding
PURPOSIA Group, has a strong connecon to sports—both professionally and personally. Living
in the Beskydy Mountains, naturally led him to the mountain biking, which fascinates him with its
diverse terrains and sense of freedom. How does his passion inuence both his professional
and personal life?
Cycling is more than just a sport for you. What
fascinates you most about it? How does it influence
your professional life?
Living in the Beskydy Mountains, mountain biking
was a natural choice for me. I enjoy the freedom of
movement in nature, the opportunity to relax, and the
physical challenges it brings. Cycling also benefits me at
work—it teaches me to plan, persevere, and never give
up. Just like tackling a steep climb, sometimes you have
to grit your teeth, but the reward comes in the form of
a thrilling descent.
I competed in my first race twenty years ago, and it was
an exhausting experience, but I made it to the finish line.
Lining up at the start was Radim Kořínek, a top Czech
cyclist and Olympian. Years later, we met again under
different circumstances, which led to HSF System’s long-
term support of his cycling team and a lasting friendship.
Today, I regularly battle for victory at the HSF System Bike
Čeladná with Honza Hasík, with whom I co-founded
HSF System.
Sports have taught me that competition drives
progress—both in cycling and in business.
The company has a deep connection to sports. How
is it embedded in your corporate culture?
Sports are an integral part of HSF System’s corporate
culture—and cycling is just the tip of the iceberg. Our
involvement began with mountain biking and the
cycling team of Radim Kořínek, which led us to connect
with Jarda Kulhavý and his project for young cyclists.
It wasn’t long before the dynamic world of cycling
brought us to Radovan Šťastný, whom we supported in
organising and financially backing the first cyclocross
races in the unique industrial setting of Dolní Vítkovice
in Ostrava. The highlight of the upcoming season will
take place right here. The Czech National Cyclocross
Championship, branded as the MČR HSF System Cup,
is set for January 10, 2026, and once again, we will be
there as the title sponsor.
In addition to cycling, we support triathlons, running,
skiing races, tennis, beach volleyball, and more. A great
example is the Datart Valachy Tour, a unique series
of races across various disciplines, or the prestigious
J&T Banka Ostrava Beach Pro tournament, which
we are involved in through our partnership with the
PURPOSIA Group holding, of which HSF System is
a part.
We are not just passive sponsors—we actively engage
in sporting events. Together with Radovan Šťastný, we
founded the HSF System Cycling Team, where we help
nurture future cycling champions. The first year of its
existence has already shown that our young riders have
great potential.
Another key step in the development of cycling, not
only in Moravia but across the Czech Republic, was
the creation of Crosspark Ostrava in the forest park,
a project we collaborated on with Radovan Šťastný.
Looking ahead, I see bringing the Cyclocross World
Cup to Ostrava as the next big challenge. Alongside
Tábor, it would be a prestigious stop with a unique
course that would put Czech cyclocross and
the Czech Republic on the global map.
Sports have taught me that compeon
drives progress—both in cycling and in
business.
