New York in Ostrava? BRUTTART Makes It Happen

The first edition of BRUTTART took place in the Wine
Cellar at Dolní oblast Vítkovice (DOV). This year,
you’ve chosen a new venue at Na Fráni Šrámka 5.
What motivated this change, and does the new space
offer something different?
It was hard to leave DOV behind. The tunnel itself
is such a unique and fascinating space. Organising
the event there was a huge challenge and a valuable
experience.
But Na Fráni Šrámka has a completely different charm.
I had only seen it in photos before and had no idea
where exactly it was. I reached out to Marek Konečný,
the owner of the building, who is working to breathe
new life into the space. One thing led to another – and
today, Marek is an essential part of our organising team.
The venue also includes an artistic community with
studios and rehearsal rooms. And if I had to highlight
one standout feature, it would definitely be the crane
and walkways, which offer a unique view of the entire
event – an obvious choice that’s bound to impress.
Do you have any recommendations for first-time
visitors to BRUTTART? How can they make the most
of the event and what can they look forward to?
Definitely follow the dress code – you might get a little
messy. We’re even planning a fashion police feature.
The dress code will be announced about three weeks
before the event on BRUTTART’s social media and
website.
Our main sponsor, NOTINO, will be doing live makeup
on models, and visitors will also have the chance to
be pampered by professional makeup artists – with
some small gifts included. There’ll be a selection
of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and this year
we’re introducing hookahs and refreshments as a new
addition.
The fashion shows themselves will be accompanied by
live performances from artists and musicians, with DJs
playing live during the runway shows. After the show,
the evening continues with a house music afterparty,
hosted by DJs from the Alliance of Music. And of
course, plenty of good vibes.
What is your personal connection to blending
fashion, art, and music? Do you have a particular
source of inspiration or a role model who has
influenced you in this area?
My inspiration and role model is my dad – a musician.
As a child, I attended a local arts school where I focused
on singing, playing the keyboard, and painting. Later,
I went on to study Fashion Design at secondary school.
But back to my dad. He was a bandleader, and I had to
take part in events I used to call “compulsory optional
activities.” We visited salons and even neighbours in
Poland, but it definitely wasn’t what I was looking for
back then.
Fate had other plans though – I met Pája, a seamstress.
Thanks to her, I dusted off the knowledge I had gained
and together we created my first original design.
To this day, Pája still sews for my brand and remains
a wonderful friend.
What are your long-term visions for BRUTTART?
Where would you like to take the event
in the coming years?
I’m keeping my feet on the ground and thinking
realistically. Even launching the first edition was a big
challenge – will anyone come? Will it capture Ostrava’s
interest? I even heard comments like, “This belongs in
Prague, don’t do it here.” But in the end, the feedback
was positive, and people asked: Should it really end
after just one event? No – it can’t, and it won’t.
The second edition is another challenge, and I see it as
a test. I’m lucky to be surrounded by talented, passionate
people who believe in the project. BRUTTART has the
potential to bring a fresh cultural breeze to Ostrava.
It supports students, builds partnerships with schools,
and we aim to feature small local food and drink
suppliers, connect with DJs and other artists. It’s all
about people, about connection and collaboration –
that’s the current vision for BRUTTART. To create an
event where the atmosphere is relaxed, where people
support each other rather than compete.
The vision is to take you to New York for a few hours –
no passport needed. And next year? We’ll let ourselves
be surprised.
Thank you for the interview.
The idea of pung together a small
show, serving prosecco and some
canapés, didn’t really appeal to me.
DJs perform live during the show itself.
Aer the runway, the evening connues
with a house music aerparty.
