Why Knowing “Just” Technology Isn’t Enough?
In today‘s world, technology plays a crucial role in our lives, and the role of a manager is evolving
signicantly alongside it. However, digital leadership is not just about technology—it is, above all,
about people. A digital leader must be able to inspire and movate their team to successfully tackle
the challenges of the digital era.
Many managers believe that simply knowing the latest
technologies and having experience in leading people
automatically makes them digital leaders. However,
this is a misconception. A Digital leader needs much
more—they must be able to connect these two
areas and leverage both to effectively achieve the
company’s goals. In a constantly evolving and turbulent
environment, this is no easy task. If we approach it step
by step, progress will come. Personally, I have seen
many examples of success in this area, but that’s a story
for another time.
What Makes a Digital Leader Successful?
The ability to continuously and quickly adapt to new
technologies, trends, and changes. Keeping an open
mind to new ways of working. Maintaining a mindset
that embraces innovation, eliminating phrases like „That
won’t work“ or „It’s impossible“ from one’s vocabulary.
Willingness to experiment, try new things, and not
fear failure or mistakes. Viewing them as a means of
learning and progress, rather than as a setback.
The ability to work with data and information.
Identifying the key insights, applying critical thinking,
evaluating them, and making informed decisions based
on the analysis.
The ability to empathise with the needs and feelings
of individual team members and communicate with
them effectively, regardless of age, gender, or any
other diversity. Adopting the mindset that the greatest
strength lies in the team, not in oneself alone.
Knowledge of new business models. Understanding
how digital technologies are transforming the
market and identifying what can give the company
a competitive advantage.
The ability to define a clear vision for digital
transformation and align it with the company’s overall
business strategy while strengthening strategic thinking.
