Not Wasting Your Chance This Is Life: and There Won’t Be Another One

What was your first feeling when you experienced
zero gravity during parabolic flight?
The two-hour flight included 16 parabolas, each giving
us 22 seconds of weightlessness. The experience is
absolutely indescribable – it’s something you simply have
no chance of experiencing anywhere else. So there was
an overwhelming sense of excitement and pure joy. We
all started cheering and screaming like little kids. We were
all indescribably happy that the months of planning had
truly come to life, that the whole mission went so well, and
that we got to be part of it.
What experiments or activities did you
carry out during the zero-gravity flight,
and what were the outcomes?
We did several experiments. For example, we tested
how Archimedes’ principle behaves in zero gravity.
We also experimented with fire, playing around with
balloons filled with water, which we then punctured to
observe how a large blob of water would behave. It was
absolutely amazing, because none of us is used to zero
gravity – we’re all used to the “normal” one.
How would you rate the cooperation with the
other crew members and the mission commander,
astronaut Aleš Svoboda?
We formed an absolutely fantastic group. All of the
organisers, as well as the “celebrities” who joined us
on the flight, were incredibly friendly and great to be
around: Czech astronaut Aleš Svoboda, TV presenters
Daniel Stach and Vláďa Kořen, Simon Klinga from the
Lasar team, space science populariser Jan Spratek,
rapper Yemi, YouTubers Mikyska and Kovy, and actress
Jana Plodková. Working with all of them was just
perfect. The organisation itself was also unforgettable
– we were escorted to the aircraft by the President, and
the press conference was attended by Minister Kupka,
senators, and a number of other prominent figures.
How has your participation in the Zero-G project
influenced you personally and professionally?
On a personal level, I definitely have more self-
confidence now. Truly – when you set your mind to
something and really put in the effort and time, any
dream can come true. I genuinely believe – even if
it sounds like a cliché – that nothing is unattainable,
everything is possible. And professionally? I’ll be
applying to university next year. Ideally, I’d love to
get into a school in Bristol, UK, to study aerospace
engineering. And once again, I’ll do everything I can to
make it happen.
What are your future plans in the field of space
exploration or science after completing this mission?
As I mentioned – I’d really like to contribute to the
development of European space science, because
I believe it’s a shame that Europe doesn’t yet have
a space industry as advanced as, for example, the one
in the USA. And besides, for every euro invested, the
return is six to eight – so it makes economic sense
as well. There will be follow-up events and activities
connected to the Zero-G project. I would truly love to
dedicate my life to this beautiful field and profession.
I’m really looking forward to it.
What would you advice to other students who would
like to take part in similar projects?
That’s a really nice question, and I’d definitely like to tell
all young people not to be afraid and to go for what they
truly want. Giving up before even starting – that’s never
a good idea. You might actually have a real chance, and
giving up too early means wasting it for no reason. So
I’d really like to say: don’t be afraid of anything, and try
whatever you can, because this is life – and there won’t
be another one.
Adam, thank you for the interview, and we wish you the
very best in everything you plan to do.
None of us is used to zero gravity –
we’re all used to the “normal” one.
