personal recommendations from my colleagues who help
them enjoy their stay in Ostrava the way locals do.
People usually feel that guides work at castles and
chateaus. How do guides operate in Ostrava?
Our website lists the guided tours we offer. These are
walks related to various parts of the city or particular
topics. The most popular guided trips include walks that
explore the city centre, Poruba, or former and current
cafés of Ostrava. We also design trips for customers who
wish to see a combination of places of interest, prefer
a bus tour, or demand a day trip taking them to particular
tourist destinations. That is what we are here for. Such
a service can be ordered by an individual, a family,
a group of friends, a school or a group of holidaymakers.
Obviously, we always advise clients who have no idea
where to go or what to see in our city: in such cases
we design the programme based on their interests and
preferences. Besides tailored guided tours, we organize
“commented walks” on particular topics: these are held
on Sundays, open to the locals of Ostrava as well as
to the visitors to the city. Tickets are sold online and in our
Tourism has recently undergone some unexpected
challenges. What novelties are you preparing for the
visitors to Ostrava? What may we look forward to?
The COVID Crisis is definitely affecting tourism in Ostrava.
We can already tell for sure that the attractions of Ostrava
will see a considerable drop in the number of visitors
in 2020, meaning a serious decrease of income from
entrance fees and other earnings. The situation in hoteling
and catering businesses is even more serious as traditional
clients from enterprise and foreign guests are not travelling,
and the cancellation of famous summer festivals has also
brought cancellations in accommodation bookings. We are
struggling to change this trend and to develop the image
of Ostrava as an attractive destination: the combination
of unique places of interest and superb dining makes our city
an ideal destination for a few-day stay. We want to support
that by introducing a “stay card” providing guests of local
hotels various bonuses and benefits, and motivating them
to make stays in Ostrava longer--and more frequent. Otázky připravil:
However, the competition is strong and all Czech urban
destinations go fishing in the same small pond.
Thank you for the interview.
