BUSINESS

in places with difficult access, or locations dangerous

to humans.

How exactly does Satum Czech s.r.o. use drones?

Can you give us examples of how they work for you?

Satum uses aerial measuring when assessing risks. It

is an innovative, one-of-a-kind solution in insurance

broking. Aerial measuring is performed by a risk

assessment engineer with a UAV Phantom 4, which

produces a 3D model of the premises including the

data we use to produce the risk analysis and calculate

insurance values of the property.

Which legislation do you have to comply with when

operating drones in an enterprise?

Especially in the commercial sphere when using

drones, it is necessary to keep elementary legislation,

such as registration at the Civil Aviation Authority

(Úřad pro civilní letectví) and other prerequisites for

licencing aerial jobs performed with a UAV, including

a copy of a drone-operation liability insurance

certificate.

The legislation is based on Regulation (EC) No

785/2004 of the European Parliament and of the

Council of 21 April 2004 on Insurance Requirements

for Air Carriers and Aircraft Operators and must be

implemented by everyone who intends to use a drone

in economic activities and as a leisure activity with

a drone exceeding 20 kg of take-off mass.

Is it necessary to take out insurance when operating

a drone? What documents does a client need for

such insurance?

Similar to road vehicles, the principal insurance is

liability insurance. The price depends on the take-off

mass of the drone, and runs up to thousands of Czech

crowns, covering damage of up to twenty-six million

crowns. Next, the owner of a drone may contract

accident insurance where the main criterion for the

price of insurance is the purchase price of the drone.

This insurance then covers the drone as a whole,

including the control panel and cameras, which may

be more expensive than the drone itself.

When contracting the insurance, the client must

deliver relevant information according to what the

insurance company demands. Basic data includes the

price, peripheries, date of purchase, take-off mass,

purpose, and scale of locations the insurance will

cover.
