Interim Management Is a Good Choice

BUSINESS v roli interim manažerky v roce 2016, velké povědomí o této práci na zdejším trhu nebylo. Hledala jsem, s kým bych mohla sdílet zkušenosti a dále se v této oblasti učit. Stala jsem se tedy členkou České asociace interim managementu (CAIM), což je profesní organizace zastřešující interim management v ČR. Možnost setkávat se s ostatními členy pro mě byla obohacující, vzájemně jsme se inspirovali zkušenostmi. S některými z nich jsem navázala pracovní spolupráci a pracovali jsme u klienta společně. Dokázali jsme tak majitelům firem svým rychlým nástupem a zkušenostmi řídit firmu v těžkém období. To se projevilo i v období krize vyvolané COVID-19, kdy firmy ocenily pomoc interim manažerů s řízením této situace. V některých případech to byl nástup krizového řízení a jinde například řízení inovací u nových obchodních modelů či výrobních programů. Pro mnohé totiž krize byla i příležitostí, jak obsadit nové trhy a uvést nové produkty k zákazníkům. Zeptala jsem se Tomáše Pastrňáka, certifikovaného interim manažera a člena CAIM od roku 2011, jaké jsou dnes nejčastější požadavky od zákazníků v MSK. Dnes firmy už interim management berou jako jednu z možností, jak v krátkém čase využít expertní zkušenosti odborníka a dostat firmu z problémů. V době koronavirové jsem pomáhal ve firmách řídit krizi nebo například získat finance z programu Covid II. V současné době ale stále více ustupuji z krizového řízení a pomáhám řídit transformační změny a nástupnictví. Pracuji teď na krásném projektu. Převzali jsme firmu po majiteli, který ji budoval 23 let. Já nyní připravuji změnu obchodního modelu a tvořím strategii na další období. Podle čeho se pozná dobrý interim manažer? A kde se učí? Dobrý interim manažer se opírá o své manažerské zkušenosti, je odborníkem na proces, za který přebírá zodpovědnost. Umí myslet strategicky. Interim manažer se učí, podle mě, stále. Sám jsem prošel certifikací v CAIM. Možnost konzultovat mé postupy na projektech s kolegy je výbornou zpětnou vazbou i inspirací do budoucna. Firmy oceňují u interim managementu především komplexnost řešení od záměru po implementaci a předání know-how. Vyžaduje to vysokou odbornost, bohaté zkušenosti a důvěryhodnost interim manažera. Nezaujatý pohled a profesionalita pomáhají vidět věci z jiných úhlů pohledů, což majitelé firem oceňují. Využít interim managementu je pro firmy v současné době dobrou volbou. Interim Management Is a Good Choice What is interim management and when is it most useful? What are its advantages and added values? How do businesses in the Moravian-Silesian Region employ interim managers, and how can they tell the right ones with the best qualities? Interim management is the temporary employment of a manager in a company which is going to implement radical changes or needs to handle an extraordinary situation. It was initially used for crisis management of organizations, however, it has already become frequent in transformational projects. An interim manager temporarily replaces standard management, increases the performance of the organization through the transformation of leadership, and solves the challenges of development and the crisis. What owners of family businesses very often demand is help in matters of succession and generational changeover. When I first decided to make use of my experience as an entrepreneur and manager to become an interim manager in 2016, the Czech market was not very aware of such jobs. I was searching for someone to share my experience with and for some ways to learn more. I joined CAIM, the Czech Association of Interim Management (Česká asociace interim managementu), a professional organization for interim management in the Czech Republic. The opportunity to meet other members has always been very beneficial; every member has become a great inspiration to each other. I started collaborating with some, and we have often worked together with our clients. That is how we are able to start managing the companies of our clients quickly, making use of our combined experience and skill in their difficult times. This was very important in the crisis ignited by COVID-19, when businesses called for interim management of the new situation. Some companies introduced crisis management, other required management of innovation related to current business models or production programmes. The crisis brought quite a few opportunities for enterprises to conquer new markets and introduce new products to their customers. I asked Tomáš Pastrňák, a certified interim manager and CAIM member since 2011, what the clients in the Moravian-Silesian Region demand most frequently. Nowadays, companies understand interim management is one of the options allowing them to make use of a professional’s expert skill and get their business out of trouble in a short time. In the COVID crisis, I helped control and manage companies and win finance from the COVID II programme. I am in the process of leaving crisis management in favour of helping manage transformational changes and succession. I am now working on a wonderful project: we acquired a company from its owner who had been developing the enterprise for twenty-three years. I am preparing the transformation of its trading model and preparing strategy for its future. How can we tell a good interim manager? Where do they learn their expertise? A good interim manager trusts their managerial skills, is an expert in the processes which they take responsibility for. They think strategically. An interim manager keeps learning all the time, I believe. I have gone through certification via CAIM. The opportunity to consult my procedures in projects with colleagues has given me excellent feedback and inspiration for the future. Businesses appreciate interim management for providing them with complex solutions from initial design to the implementation and delivery of know-how. This demands top professionalism, great experience, and high credit of the interim manager. Unbiased views and professionalism help to see matters from various viewpoints which company owners appreciate. To bring interim management into companies these days is undoubtedly a good decision.
