A naopak. Pokud disponuje bohatým fondem beletrie ze všech koutů světa, neignoruje moderní literaturu, má pestrý výběr sekundární literatury, má bohatý digitální fond, pak taková škola zodpovědně připravuje své studenty na výzvy 21. století, na klíčové kompetence ve vzdělávání, učí je kriticky myslet. A jak vypadá ta Vaše knihovna? The Library Is the Heart of a School in the 21st Century A school library is a centre of a modern school. It should be a transparent, open space with no barriers which calls students’ attention to their studies, supports their research as well as creativity and cooperation among students, teachers and the wider school community. It should connect the best of both the physical and digital offerings, consequently creating a learning centre for the 21st century. It should not be a dusty mausoleum of books but it should inspire students to build new knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Various debates should take place there, with interesting guest speakers from the worlds of culture, science, media, sport and health, and human rights. The librarian plays an important role in it--they are not only an archivist but should be a pedagogue. They should guide students in the world of fiction, and responsibly recommend resources and focus on academic honesty, too. Is it a storage space for textbooks? If so, then, the school passes only a hundred-times repeated truth. And vice versa. If it has a large collection of fiction from all corners of the world, if it does not ignore modern literature, if it has a rich selection of secondary and digital resources, then the school responsibly prepares its students to the challenges of the 21st century, for the key competencies in learning and it teaches them critical thinking. What does your school look like?
