Reopen after Years,
Returning Cinema
to Poruba
Ostrava-Poruba has moved a little bit forward again. After nine years, the Poklad Cultural House
was ceremoniously opened on 25 August 2021. There is a large theatre hall with an original wooden
ceiling, a ballroom with a capacity of up to 300 visitors, a cinema, five lounges and a restaurant.
Theaters, concerts, events for seniors and children, courses and education, art projects - you will find
it all in Poklad. We asked the CEO of AKORd & POKLAd, s.r.o., Mgr. Bc. darina daňková, MBA.
The reconstruction of Poklad in Ostrava-Poruba has been
completed after nine years and ceremoniously opened to
the public on 25 August. Mrs Daňková, are you satisfied
with the final appearance of the cultural house?
We are extremely satisfied. Minimalist style, smooth lines,
white and black occasionally complemented by yellow
accents, modern design, everything looks clean and simple.
According to the response, we know that our visitors
perceive the transformation of Poklad very positively. If you
add modern technical equipment to this, a cultural stand
worthy of the 21st century was created. We are now looking
forward to imprinting its soul on rich cultural events.
What did the reconstruction allow in terms of the
operation and development of the house and what
capacities does the building actually have?
The largest theatre hall has a capacity of 400 seats. Here,
we managed to preserve the original wooden ceiling, which
is really impressive and underlines the excellent acoustic

properties of this space. The social hall can accommodate
up to 300 visitors, but it depends on whether it is a ball with
a dance floor or a conference or other event. I think they
will all be enchanting with their beautiful lighting fixtures.
Seventy-four comfortable seats await spectators in the
cinema and the small stage can accommodate up to 100
spectators. Up to twenty-five people can attend physical
training courses of various types. The restaurant has
a capacity of sixty seats and in the summer it grows even
more thanks to outdoor seating.
The five lounges, which are newly located in the building,
are named after different parts of Poruba—Dukla, Duha,
Oblouk, Věžičky and Poruba. How did this idea come
about?
In the spring, we approached the local people with the
question of what they would like our lounges to be called.
Then we selected from their ideas. You can easily recognize
the individual lounges: there are photos by Boris Renner
