STYLE INTERVIEW

You graduated from VŠB-TUO, majoring

in marketing and trade. It was certainly

not easy to combine the studies and

career of a singer. How do you remember

your studies in Ostrava?

Honestly? I don‘t :-D. It was quite a difficult

period, but I am a stubborn bull and if I come

up with something, I will do it and finish it. I‘m

purposeful. Having ten rehearsals in college

and twenty concerts in one month was many

times about health. I felt I could handle it, but

it was really hard. I‘m grateful to be a singing

engineer. I have a back door now. I‘m not so

intelligent that I would never have to learn or

ever thought I knew everything. I studied in

the car while driving to concerts and then

I was lucky. My classmates helped me a lot;

we had an amazing group of people. I‘m

grateful for that.

You are a young mother. Where do you

see your future: as a singer or in

marketing?

My dream is to say what Karel Gott once

said: that I sang with my life. So far, music

has been my full-time job for twelve years

and I would like to say that it lasted fifty

or sixty years. I do not have to be a top

singer; the important thing is that I‘m here

and people perceive me. It is nice that

marketing can be nicely combined with

the role of a singer. I enjoy advertising, PR,

I‘m in the process from the conception

of video clips and songs through to

their distribution, release, promotion

and subsequent analysis. So I also use

marketing in my profession as a singer.

Where in the region can we hear you in

the near future and what projects are

you planning?

From September, you can see me every

other Friday on the program Sama doma.

We broadcast live from the Ostrava studio

of Česká televize with my colleague

Linda. We have concerts with the band

in Olomouc, for example, or Litoměřice

or Prague. I performed in Třinec a week

ago. Fans can follow other events on my

social networks, where I continuously

share information about upcoming

performances. We also have Ostrava

and Opava here. As far as projects are

concerned, my colleague Jan Bendig and

I are preparing another Czech-Roma duet

and I am leaving space as a soloist. I have

an almost one-year-old daughter Amálka

and I feel that I want to devote the most

energy to her. She is my biggest project

now. I create music but I don‘t feel the

need to invest energy and time there now,

because the times are uncertain and you

don‘t know if you will be able to sing live

at concerts. That‘s why I devote the most

time to my sweetheart. We also rehearse

with the band and are preparing for the

Christmas season.

Jaromír Nohavica wrote the lyrics to

your song. How did such a collaboration

come about? Will the cooperation

continue?

My former management is releasing Mr

Nohavica‘s albums, which in no way

means that Mr. Nohavica will write lyrics

for you through acquaintances. He cheers

me on; he‘s a great person and I grew up

on his music. I was all the happier when

we approached him with a song and he

accepted it. The last time he wrote words

for someone else was for Marie Rottrová.

It‘s a rarity and I‘m grateful to be one of

the singers for whom he wrote lyrics.

I do not know whether the cooperation

will continue. I am now very focused on my

own work—I compose my own songs and

lyrics in collaboration with a young lady

who has now reached Berkeley. Although

I‘m not a lyricist or composer, I feel that

when I participate in the creation, I like

it and people trust me more. It‘s not

100%, but it‘s from the heart. Now I have

composed the song AMI for my daughter

and it was a huge success. In addition,

when you do something with joy, I believe

you can then pass it on more easily to other

people, because they will believe in you.

...the inhabitants value

“

those who have stayed here or

returned and make a certain

representation of the city...

”

What are your plans for the future?

Do you have a secret dream that you

would like to fulfill?

Clearly. I want to jump out of a plane, for

example. Travel the whole world and show

it to Amálka. Professionally, I would like to

have what I have now for the rest of my life,

because I am satisfied with that. I privately

hope that my family and I will stay healthy

and I just want to keep the balance and

harmony I have. I don‘t need anything

else. A healthy family, a loving partner and

a dream job. What could be more?

If you really want to rest, how do you

relax? Do you have a favourite place in

the Moravian-Silesian Region that you

would recommend?

I haven‘t rested in the last year since my

daughter was born, to be honest. We

follow the creed the less we sleep, the more

experience we have. So we don‘t sleep

much, but we‘re action-packed and we‘re

always thinking of something. I relax in the

evening when our daughter falls asleep;

I start to put her little things together in the

laundry room and enjoy motherhood.

We like hiking, trips in general. The local

panorama. I would definitely recommend

Lysá Hora, Pustevny, Štramberk. And we

have such a nice restaurant by the lake,

called Přístav Kostkov, in Návsí and it is

very pleasant there, both for food and for

a walk

Markéta, thank you for the interview.
