to Educate New IT Professionals
Chen Kopelman is a young and enthusiasc teacher from Israel. Specializing in the eld of computer
science, Kopelman has worked as a teacher in the schools of his home country and has also served in
the Israeli Defense forces. He is taking a new life step by moving to Ostava to teach computer science at
the 1
st
Internaonal School of Ostrava, where he will apply all of his knowledge, skills and movaon to
the students of this ourishing school. We had the opportunity to ask Mr. Kopelman some quesons.
Chene, co pro vás znamená informatika?
Počítačová věda je inovativní kreativní
obor, který stimuluje kritické myšlení, což
má dopad na každý aspekt našeho života,
od těch nejmenších každodenních problé-
mů až po velké výzvy světa. Alan Turing,
známý jako otec počítačové vědy, získal
uznání za svou práci na rozluštění nacistic-
kého kódu Enigma během druhé světové
války, což je podle historiků úspěch, který
zkrátil válku nejméně o dva roky.
Jak informatika ovlivňuje náš
každodenní život?
Jako programátor a vedoucí týmu za-
bývajícího se vývojem softwaru jsem
během sedmi let služby v izraelských
obranných silách měl přímou zkušenost
s tím, jak se informatika používá při ře-
šení problémů v reálném světě. Práce
se špičkovými technologiemi mi dala
příležitost využít kreativitu a technologic-
kou zdatnost k ochraně lidí.
Jak přistupujete k výuce informatiky a co
je pro vás jako učitele důležité?
Měl jsem tu čest učit na školách a poskytovat
studentům to, co mi jako studentovi chybě-
lo – další možnosti a příležitosti. Jsem toho
názoru, že každý jedinec si zaslouží vysoce
kvalitní vzdělání a možnost získat bohaté
dovednosti. S jejich pomocí pak může na-
plnit svůj nejvyšší potenciál a zdolá tak ty
nejvyšší vrcholy. Každý by měl mít právo
poznat úžasný svět informatiky a nabýt tak
výkonných nástrojů, které umožňují využívat
znalosti a technologie k dosažení jakýchkoli
stanovených cílů. Vždy se proto snažte klást
si vysoké cíle a zdokonalovat se. Překračujte
nové hranice a jednejte ve prospěch všech.
Jaké je Vaše životní motto a co Vás
inspiruje?
Zdravá konkurence je cenná, avšak pevný
základ úspěchu tvoří týmová práce, ze-
jména pokud jde o znalosti ve vědeckých
oblastech. Pokud bych měl svůj pohled
na svět shrnout do jedné věty, zvolil bych
výrok Alberta Einsteina: „Cílem vzdělává-
ní musí být vychovat samostatně jednající
a myslící jedince, kteří vidí svůj největší ži-
votní úspěch ve službě komunitě.”

What does computer science
mean to you?
Computer Science is an innovative and
creative field that stimulates critical
thinking, influencing every aspect of our
lives, from the smallest daily problems to
the grand challenges of the world. Alan
Turing, widely recognized as the father of
computer science, gained recognition for
his role in deciphering the Nazis’ Enigma
code during World War II. Historians
argued that this remarkable feat shortened
the war by at least two years.
How does computer science influence
our everyday life?
As a programmer and software development
team leader during my seven years of service
in the Israeli Defense Forces, I gained
valuable experience in applying computer
science to real world problem solving.
Working with cutting-edge technologies
gave me the opportunity to use creativity and
technological prowess to safeguard people.
How do you approach teaching
computer science, and what are your key
priorities as an educator in this field?
I also had the privilege of teaching in
schools, where my goal was to provide
students with what I felt was lacking during
my own time as a student myself – going
the extra mile. I strongly believe that every
individual deserves a high-quality education
and the opportunity to develop a strong
sense of capability. My aim as a teacher is
to empower students to unlock their full
potential and conquer new challenges.
I believe that everyone should have access
to the amazing world of computer science
and be equipped with the necessary tools
to strengthen knowledge and technology
in accomplishing their desired goals.
I encourage my students to strive for greater
heights, continuously seek opportunities
for improvements and advancement, dare
to break new boundaries, and be driven by
a sense of purpose to benefit society.
What is your life motto and what inspires
you in your pursuit of your goals?
While healthy competition is valuable,
teamwork forms a solid foundation for
success, particularly in the scientific realm. If
I were to summarize my worldview into one
sentence, I would choose Albert Einstein‘s
statement: “The aim of education must be
the training of independently acting and
thinking individuals who, however, can
see in the service to the community their
highest life achievement.”
