Havířov Keeps
Investing in the
Development
of the City
Some turbulent years are behind us and it seems that more lie
ahead. But one thing remains unchanged: Havířov is not afraid to
invest in a better future for the city and its citizens, despite the less
than favourable global economic situation.
Recently, the city received admiration and
praise for the newly reconstructed Havířov
railway station and its forecourt, the National
Table Tennis Training Centre, as well as new
lifts and wiring in the city apartments. This
year Havířov has ambitious plans that are
starting to become a reality. One notable
project is the extensive renovation of
the sports ground at the Gorkého Primary
School in Havířov-Město. The playground
has undergone significant improvements,
at a cost of approximately CZK 26 million
and since April, both school children and
the general public can enjoy an athletic
track with an artificial surface, a small
football and softball field with an artificial
grass surface, two multi-purpose courts for
volleyball and basketball with an EDPM
surface, and a workout area. In the future,
the town also has plans to revitalise other
playgrounds in Havířov. To achieve this,
a systematic concept has been prepared
to determine the needs and possibilities of
individual sports grounds.
revitalisation of the park behind the Radost
Cultural Centre. New greenery, play areas,
a rest area, parking spaces, road and
pavement improvements, new furniture,
public lighting and storm water drainage
will all be featured in the popular city centre
park from next summer. The upgrade will
cost around CZK 58 million, work will start
in November and should be completed
by August next year. The changes will be
significant, starting with the renewal of trees
and greenery. Only a small portion of
the existing trees will need to be removed,
while the majority will remain and will be
supplemented with new plantings that will
transform the park into a more modern,
elegant and airy place. The park will offer
plenty of relaxation areas, and the younger
visitors will enjoy the slide, swing, sandpit,
trampoline and rope park. This green oasis
in the city centre, cherished by mothers
with children, dog owners, and walkers
throughout the year, will be full of benches
and blooming greenery, providing an ideal
setting for relaxation and active leisure time
in nature. Despite operating since the town’s
foundation in 1955, without renovation or
modernisation, the management of Havířov
has recognized the need to breathe new life
into the park and community centre.
Disabled citizens were also thought of in
the city’s investment plan. Consequently,
the former nursery in Havířov-Šumbark,
which has remained unused for many
years, was transformed into a daycare
centre. Since May of this year, the centre
has been providing social services to adults
with mental or combined disabilities.
The renovation also includes a spacious
garden that will soon provide ample space
for group and individual outdoor activities
for clients.
The diversity of investments in Havířov
is further demonstrated by the planned
