Fairytale Castle
Hradec nad Moravicí
Hradec nad Moravicí Chateau, known in
Czech as Zámek Hradec nad Moravicí, is
a complex of buildings in a small town of
the same name in the Silesian part of the
Moravian-Silesian Region. The first mention
of Hradec nad Moravicí and its fortified
settlement comes from the middle of the
11th century. After a fire in the middle of
the 13th century, a large-scale construction
of the new gothic castle of King Přemysl
Otakar II was begun. The gothic castle
was rebuilt into a renaissance and later
a Baroque chateau. With an empire-era
reconstruction, it gained the characteristic
expression it is known for today. Today,
the White Castle belongs to a complex of
monumental buildings with an extensive
park, with the so-called White Tower rising
behind that. The area can be entered
through a gate, which is part of the neogothic Red Castle.
