With Lenzing, Biocel Gains a Completely New Perspecti ve

Biocel Paskov has been one of the most important
industrial enterprises in the Moravian-Silesian Region since
the 1980s. ‘We have been producing paper pulp for thirty
years’, says CEO Kateřina Kupková. ‘To this day, people in
and around Paskov will not call our plant anything other
than Celpak (acronym for Paskov Cellulose). We defi nitely
stopped producing pulp for the paper industry in 2013’.
The change in Biocel’s production programme came with
the arrival of the global company--Austrian Lenzing Group.
The main business of the Lenzing Group is the production
of sustainable textile fi bers, which are a very popular
commodity in today’s world. Not only are big fashion
brands like Zara or H&M trying to mitigate their impact
on the environment, but they are aiming for using more
sustainable materials.
‘We became part of the Lenzing Group in 2010. This was
immediately followed by huge investments worth more
than 4bCZK in new technologies, in the power plant and
conversion of our production program. Between 2011
to 2013, we were still producing paper and viscose pulp
in parallel, and then we defi nitively said goodbye to the
paper industry’, recalls Kupková.
At present, the main product of Lenzing Biocel Paskov
is high-quality dissolving pulp. It is the input raw material
for sustainable textiles and fi bers for the production of
nonwovens, which are used in healthcare and also for
