a do městské infrastruktury zapojit bývalé
textilní průmyslové areály. Prvním krokem
bude rekonstrukce objektu pro potřeby
městské policie a nový bulvár, který spojí
vlakové nádraží a sídliště Slezská. Násle-
dovat bude postupná přeměna celé ob-
lasti včetně nového dopravního terminálu,
bytové výstavby a revitalizace jedné z nej-
krásnějších průmyslových historických
budov ve Staroměstské ulici. Plány máme
velké a věřím, že jsou zajímavé pro občany
i pro budoucí investory.

Mr Korč, how would you introduce
Frýdek-Místek? What does the city
offer to potential investors?
We are open to new opportunities. The
city needs to develop, not preserve and
maintain its status quo. This demands the
courage to accept even extraordinary
urban solutions. In the current survey
‘City for Enterprise’, we have placed
second amongst municipalities with
extended powers, Ostrava came first.
Our relationships with businesses are
growing stronger and I believe that
citizens will soon see that reflected in new
investments as well as job opportunities.
Frýdek-Místek is situated near the
Beskids; you can reach most holiday
resorts in half an hour and the regional
district is just a twenty-minute drive. The
centre of Frýdek offers peace, calm, and
speaks of rich history. There are many
parks and greenery as well as sports
facilities.
Can you describe the traffic infrastructure
in and around the city?
The bypass of urban areas will soon open,
which will ease congestion in the city and its
centre caused by tourists heading for Beskid
resorts and freight transport to Slovakia or
Poland. The connectivity of the city is great
and the bypass will make it excellent. Public
transport within the city is free for its citizens.
What are the major current and
prospective city projects?
We have revived plans to expand the House
of Culture by the New Scene as designed by
the famous architect Eva Jiřičná. We want to
tax the potential and employ the former textile
production facilities in the city infrastructure,
too. The first step is to renew one plant to
serve the city police, and to open a new
boulevard connecting the railway station
with the Slezská housing estate. A gradual
transformation of the entire neighbourhood
will follow, including a new terminus, a new
residential district and the revitalization of
one of the most beautiful industrial historical
buildings on Old Town Street. Our plans are
ambitious yet I believe they are also attractive
to our citizens and prospective investors.

Můžete popsat dopravní infrastrukturu
ve městě a jeho okolí?
Brzy budeme mít obchvat, což zklidní do-
pravu ve městě a centru se vyhnou rekre-
anti směřující do Beskyd a nákladní doprava
na Slovensko či do Polska. Dopravní dostup-
nost města je už dnes výborná, obchvat to
ještě vylepší. MHD je pro občany zdarma.
