Czechs and Cybersecurity on Holiday
Thirty nine percent of Czechs don’t consider the possibility of losing or having their phone
stolen. Yet 88% of us travel with a smartphone. One in ve respondents even takes a laptop
to the seaside. Only 16% bring work devices with them – mainly individuals aged 30 to 41 with
a university degree.
Beware of public Wi-Fi
Half of the respondents admitted they don’t use
a VPN while on holiday. One in five – 20% – don’t
even know what a VPN is. While a VPN allows us to
watch Czech programmes from abroad, it also offers
significant security benefits – it encrypts and protects
our communication with the websites we visit.
Sharing holiday photos
The safest approach is to post your holiday memories
only after you return home. According to the survey,
Czechs tend to be cautious in this regard – only 6%
of respondents said they publicly share videos and photos
on social media in real time during their holidays.
Last year, we saw a new type of scam emerge, as well-
known fraudsters from online marketplaces shifted
their activity to platforms like Booking and Airbnb.
And this threat remains very real – 13% of our
respondents reported having encountered a scam
on accommodation platforms.
How to stay protected
Don’t forget the often-repeated advice: update your
system and all apps on any device you’re taking
with you on holiday. Install and use reliable security
software. If you plan to make online card payments
abroad, consider using a single-use virtual payment
card for these transactions.
What if it all goes wrong and your phone is lost
or compromised
Only 12% of respondents use a tool that would help
them locate their device in case of loss. Theft and loss
protection features do exist – for example, you can try
