Today, the Silesian Ostrava Castle is much more than just a historical monument – it is a vibrant
cultural and social hub that aracts entrepreneurs, arsts, lmmakers, and families with children.
The castle’s custodian, Mrs. Čechová, who has been in her role for four years, shares not only
the unique charm of this place, but also reveals what’s new this season.
You have been working as the custodian
of the Silesian Ostrava Castle. What does
this position mean to you personally?
Above all, it is a beautiful, inspiring, and creative
job, which at the same time carries a great deal
of responsibility, not only for the operation of the castle,
but also for all the activities that take place here.
Although our castle has a rich history, today it primarily
serves as a lively cultural and social centre. We organise
traditional public events, and the castle hosts festivals,
concerts, theatre performances, as well as private
celebrations and corporate events. We hold exhibitions,
lectures, and also educational programmes for schools
and workshops for children. It is important to ensure
that each of these events runs smoothly and that visitors
leave satisfied. I am fortunate to have a wonderful team
of people who make it a joy for me to work here.
What do you think is the unique charm

for more than just a beautiful place?
The charm of the castle undoubtedly lies in its energy
and atmosphere, which come from the connection
between its history and the contemporary cultural
and social life that now takes place here. Having gone
through a period of complete decline in its history
followed by restoration, the castle’s genius loci is truly
irreplaceable.
Today, the castle offers a variety of spaces for
photography, filming, exhibitions, and events of all
kinds – a spacious courtyard, stone walls, mysterious
rooms, indoor areas, and the beautiful greenery that
surrounds it, while also providing the infrastructure
necessary to host any type of event.
