The business community often seeks out exceptional
venues for their events. What does the castle offer
to those who wish to combine business with a story,
atmosphere, and cultural depth?
We have indeed noticed a growing interest
in hosting corporate events, team-building activities,
and gatherings for business partners here at the castle.
Its main asset is its beautiful yet unconventional setting.
It is located in a place free from the intense hustle
and bustle of the city, yet it is just a few minutes from
the centre. It is easily accessible, whether on foot,
by bike, by car, or even by tram, which stops just a few
dozen metres from the castle. The castle can add
a relaxed and informal atmosphere to any event, but it
is equally suited for occasions of significant importance.
The castle also offers excellent facilities, with highly
versatile indoor and outdoor spaces. We have both
a small and a large hall, terraces above the large hall
and in the palace, and a spacious amphitheatre. This
allows guests to tailor their event exactly as they wish,
whether it be a private concert, a theatre performance,
or various team-building activities.
Beyond our own programming, we collaborate with
an agency that can create a bespoke programme
aligned with the castle’s historical theme. Visitors
can encounter knights, fencing duels, fire-breathers,
historical dances, and period music. Last but not least,
during the season, guests can simply enjoy a barbecue
in the courtyard or roast sausages over an open fire.
I believe that in todays hectic world, people appreciate
this kind of pause, relaxation, and entertainment away
from the noise of civilisation.
What do you think best captures the atmosphere
of this season? Is there an event you would say is an
absolute must-see?
If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I would say it is
the blend of history, culture, and entertainment – variety,
joy, relaxation, and a sense of ease. It is almost impossible
to highlight just one event I would recommend, as we
aim to offer something for everyone, whether they
come for a castle tour or for the cultural programme.
Among the theatre performances, I certainly must
mention the ever-popular Shakespeare Festival and The
White Lady for Marriage, which, following last year’s
success, will be performed under the open sky three
times this season. Visitors can also look forward to the
family-friendly musical Lotrando and Zubejda, as well
as a concert version of the musical Rebels.
I believe many unforgettable experiences were
taken away from recent festivals such as Sorfest
and Jazz Open – and the upcoming Barrák Music
Hrad festival will be no exception. A major draw
for many fans will undoubtedly be the planned
performance by Marek Ztracený as part of his 2025
tour, as well as the band Mirai, who will perform during
the Mirai Summer Fest. For wine lovers, I certainly
mustn’t forget to mention the upcoming Moravian wine
festival, complete with live cimbalom music.
Do you plan any new features that might surprise
your regular visitors?
Following the recent renovation of the castle courtyard,
we received final approval just a few weeks ago for
a new suspended terrace with castle refreshments. It is
beautifully situated with views of the greenery and the
Lučina River, serving as a spot where visitors can relax
after their castle tour, sit down with a coffee or tea,
unwind, or enjoy a light snack. The terrace itself is shaped
like a small amphitheatre, and in the future, we would
like to use it for small performances, educational
programmes for schools, or open-air lectures.
We are also planning to renovate the castle’s entrance
gate, and we already have a project prepared for
the possible transformation of the green area on the
side of the castle into an orchard and relaxation area,
which could also be used for educational programmes
or outdoor exhibitions. We have many plans, but of
course, everything depends on time and available
funding.
As for programme highlights – until the end of July,
visitors can experience the unique multimedia exhibition
Rudolf II Comes to Life, dedicated to the legendary
Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor. Just a few days
ago, we also opened the World of Models exhibition,
which will run until 2
nd
November. We are also
in discussions with Czech Television about a potential
Večerníček exhibition, which would certainly delight
our youngest visitors – and no doubt us adults as well.
In terms of educational activities, we are expanding our
offer of school programmes, focusing not only on the
history of the castle but also on its surroundings.
My wish is for the Silesian Ostrava Castle to be a place
where people feel comfortable, where they can take
a break from the everyday rush, and to which they will
be happy to return.
Thank you for the interview.
The charm of the castle undoubtedly
lies in its energy and atmosphere.
