Tip: Invest in Wine
As the Sommelier Tip of this issue, we invite you to have
a glass of good red wine from the Beneš Winery.
The family-run Beneš Winery is found in the vine
village Hrušky in the “Painted Region” of Podluží, the
southernmost end of Moravia. Mr Roman Beneš and his
father Jaroslav farm their 7.5 ha of vineyards, annually
producing nearly 40,000 bottles of wine.
The region of Podluží belongs to the wine subregion
Slovácko and blue vine varieties prosper there thanks to
special qualities of the local soil. The Beneš family pay
special care to their production and process grapes from
the third harvest after two “reduction seasons”. The first
reduction comes in late August and grapes are disposed
of. The second reduction produces clarets and rosé
wines. Each plant therefore produces one bottle of wine
with attributes.
For many years, red wines from the Beneš Winery have
been the top quality items in our catalogue.
This February they have introduced three reds from 2017:
• Merlot 2017 selection of grapes
• Pinot noir 2017 selection of grapes
• Blaufränkisch 2017 late harvest “pozdní sběr”
Those wines have been aged in wood barrels for
13 months, the merlot in 225 litre French oak barrels
Seguin Moreau, the pinot noir 2/3 Seguin Moreau
and 1/3 François Frères. The Frankovka has been aged
in larger 750 l barrels Seguin Moreau and Veneta
Botti. These outstanding wines already show excellent
“drinkability” but being bottled only a few weeks ago,
their quality will improve and they will offer even a better
and fuller taste and experience in a few months. The
wines are now sold in the wine shop VIIINO Ostrava.
