The strategic positions and high quality programmes at
individual science centres nowadays rank amongst the
most sought for leisure time attractions in the Czech
Republic.
The only science centre in the Moravian-Silesian Region
is Svět techniky (Science and Technology Centre)
in Vítkovice, Lower Area. The supermodern facility,
winning attention at the first sight for its timeless design
by architect Josef Pleskot and for its marvellous location
in a large industrial neighbourhood, complies with the
strictest measures of similar European institutions. From
children in kindergartens to pupils in secondary schools
to the lay public can learn a lot here thanks to the
support of the governments of the Moravian-Silesian
Region, the city of Ostrava, and other statutory cities and
partner companies from the region. “Our primary aim
has always been education. Education does not happen
in classrooms exclusively; the Science and Technology
Centre and all of Lower Area of Vítkovice prove that,
in an attractive environment, people subconsciously
learn so much about science, technology, and present
