People and Leaders in Industry 4.0

Part III

The previous part of our series focused on key competences to develop with employees. Do

employees actually perceive that as an investment in their own future, or does it just mean more

pressure from the employer? What is the leader’s role in that?

“

The aim of education and

wisdom is to help a human see

their way in life clearly, to walk

it safely while remembering the

past, knowing the present, and

foreseeing the future.

John Amos Comenius

Sometimes,

personal

development

programmes see a participant who joins

in only because the superior ordered

them to attend a programme of personal

development. What impact does it have on

an employee to attend a course without

understanding why?

Proper leaders know which kind of

development to choose for their employees

and why. They give clear instructions on

what they expect employees to learn. They

can also explain what improvements they

expect after the development programme.

They know how the employees will make

use of newly acquired skills in the future.

They can define the benefits at work of

the employees and in the company. They

relate the personal development to the

job and business aims, and can make

clear connections and logic. If employees

understand the target of their development,

they will easily identify the added value for

themselves as well. They will see it as an

investment in their own future.

What does FINIDR understand as the

“investment in people”?

Our priorities involve continuous

improvements in job conditions for

our employees. In addition to their

personal development, we emphasize

prevention in health care. We offer our

employees a programme to enhance

the quality of their lives, including the

help of a physiotherapist, an expert in

stress management, specialized exercise

programmes, healthy choices in our

canteen, and sports days for families with

children. The investments in our people are

aimed at the stabilisation of “Finidrians”.

Maryla Adamčíková, HR Manager at

FINIDR, and her team see to the leaders

and their work with employees focusing on

the support of the general strategy of their

enterprise. I asked her about her opinion

and experience.

How does FINIDR invest in the

development of your people?

Our orders are all customized so Finidrians

face a range of challenges on a daily

basis. They continuously develop their

polygraphic expertise. We enjoy sharing

”

our experience and attending conferences,

and do so quite often. We have coaches

and mentors who help our people develop

and improve. However, the cornerstone

is our FINIDR Academy and refined

adaptation process for new employees.

They allow the newcomers in our company

to learn and understand polygraphics and

our company culture.

Do your employees realize that personal

development is an investment equally

positive for the company and for

themselves too? Finidrians appreciate

education within the production being

immediately implemented. They attend

language classes and communicate with

visitors to the printing house. They are

motivated when they can join a team of

experienced internal lecturers and coaches.

All of that means making their jobs more

enjoyable. I am happy they understand their

personal development is beneficial for both

the parties. It has helped us be a successful

enterprise for twenty-five years already.
