Rodák z amerického Baltimoru patří k nejvýraznějším
skladatelům uměleckého směru zvaného minimalismus.
Tvůrce symfonických děl, operní, baletní a filmové
hudby, v roce 2013 hostem Dnů nové opery Ostrava
(NODO) a zde také před pár lety vznikla myšlenka uvést
jeho Proces s kafkovským námětem v české premiéře
právě v Ostravě. Opera NDM se nastudování díla ujala
101 let po smrti Franze Kafky a zazní pouze čtrnáctkrát
během října v kostele svatého Václava. Režíruje Jiří
Nekvasil, hudební nastudování Bruno Ferrandis.
Opera NDM nabídne na domovské scéně první řád-
nou (repertoárovou) premiéru v únoru 2026 – bude
to Rossiniho MOJŽÍŠ A FARAON. Téma biblické není
pro italského mistra až tak typické, známější jsou spí-
še jeho díla komická. Rozhodně je na co se těšit! Pro
režii divadlo oslovilo Vladimíra Johna, orchestr povede
osvědčený David Švec.
Pro premiéru v květnu 2026 pak tandem Šedivý –
Nekvasil nazkouší HRÁČE od Sergeje Prokofjeva. F. M.
Dostojevskij napsal slavnou novelu během necelého
měsíce, z honoráře byl pak schopen splatit své vlastní
hráčské dluhy. Prokofjev dílko zhudebnil v roce 1917.
Činohra NDM vstoupila do sezóny hrou na motivy osu-
dů švédské skupiny ABBA a zakončí ji v dubnu známou
VELRYBOU od Samuela D. Huntera. Brandon Fraser za
roli ve stejnojmenném filmu dostal Oscara, pamatuje-
te? Muzikál má v plánu jednu premiéru původního díla
a balet nabídne dvě novinky.

Born in Baltimore, USA, he is one of the most
prominent composers of the artistic movement known
as minimalism. A creator of symphonic works, opera,
ballet and film music, he has been a guest at the Days
of New Opera Ostrava (NODO), where a few years
ago the idea was conceived to stage his Trial with its
Kafkaesque theme in a Czech premiere right here
in Ostrava. The NMST Opera has taken on the work
exactly 101 years after Franz Kafka’s death, and it will
be performed only fourteen times in October at the
Church of St Wenceslas. The production is directed
by Jiří Nekvasil, with musical preparation by Bruno
Ferrandis.
The first full-scale (repertory) premiere on the
company’s home stage will take place in February 2026
– Rossini’s Moses and Pharaoh. A biblical subject is not
entirely typical for the Italian master, who is better
known for his comic works. There is certainly much
to look forward to! The production will be directed
by Vladimír John, with the orchestra conducted by the
experienced David Švec.
For the May 2026 premiere, the Šedivý–Nekvasil
tandem will stage The Gambler by Sergei Prokofiev.
F. M. Dostoevsky wrote the famous novella in less
than a month, and the fee allowed him to repay his
own gambling debts. Prokofiev set the work to music
in 1917.
The NMST Drama Company opened the season
with a play inspired by the story of the Swedish band
ABBA and will close it in April with Samuel D. Hunter’s
acclaimed The Whale. Remember Brendan Fraser
winning an Oscar for his role in the film adaptation
of the same name? The Musical Company plans one
premiere of an original work, while the Ballet Company
will present two new productions.
