The Leaders Club is more than just
a network of contacts. It is a living organism
that gives its members space to grow
in ways that go far beyond discussions
around a table. Every year it organises two
key events designed not only to support
personal growth but also to strengthen
the ability to face obstacles, push one’s
own limits and discover what victory over
oneself truly tastes like.
One such event is the Iron Challenge. This
year, the Austrian Alps hosted its second
edition, led by Tomáš Mačuga of ABEL.
For a few days, the picturesque village
of Bad Goisern turned into the backdrop
for a story that could serve as a textbook
example of leadership. Via ferrata climbs
offer far more parallels with business than
it might seem at first glance.
At first, the summit appears unattainable.
Yet something draws us to set out
upwards. The first steps are easy, but soon
come stretches where routine is no
longer enough – you need to steady your
mind, focus, and place trust both in your
equipment and in yourself. There are
moments when you hang suspended,
convinced you cannot go any further.
And then you do the only thing possible:
concentrate on a single small step forward.
Business works the same way – sometimes
you don’t need to think miles ahead; it is
enough to focus on that one decisive
move. And when you finally catch your
breath at the summit, you realise you
have conquered not only the mountain,
but above all yourself.
It is this very experience that gives
the Iron Challenge its unique value.
Our thanks go to Tomáš Mačuga for his
skilful balance of fear and courage, which
allowed each of us to leave enriched
with a new perspective on ourselves.
And for those who wish to share in this
experience, the third Iron Challenge
awaits – once again a moment to test
character and strengthen self-confidence.
The Leaders Club is also about
the responsibility we carry towards others.
That is why we take part in charity runs
every year. This time, another challenge
awaited us as we ran a relay in the
Ostrava Marathon. Every step carried
a deeper meaning: it helped little Terezka,
bravely fighting DEND syndrome – a rare
combination of congenital diabetes,
epilepsy and severely delayed motor
development. Running for a good cause
symbolises that true leadership is not only
about ambition but also about the ability
to help where it is needed most.
The Leaders Club shows that leadership
is a journey. A journey upwards,
where obstacles are not hindrances
but opportunities. A journey where
we learn to trust ourselves and others,
and where every step – whether on a rock
face or along a marathon course – can
mean a change for the better.
All it takes is the first step.
