HYDROGEN

Colours

of Ostrava 2023

in the Spirit

of Hydrogen!

The Colours of Ostrava festival has

traditionally been a part of the Ostrava

and the Moravian-Silesian cultural scene,

whose four-day culmination attracts visitors

from all corners of the country and abroad.

Modern festival scenes of the 21st century,

which Colours of Ostrava undoubtedly

belongs to, cannot do without involving

the corresponding modern trends of

the circular economy, social responsibility

and technology. With a bit of exaggeration,

one could say, "Why not hydrogen?"

entrance, powered the busy merchandising

zone and fully covered its consumption.

"The

generators

worked

dutifully

throughout the festival and consumed

virtually the entire supply of hydrogen

bundles supplied by local company

Vítkovice, Inc." notes Daniel Minařík,

Chairman of the Board of Directors of

the Moravian-Silesian Hydrogen Cluster,

who was a helpful festival guide for this

year's hydrogen installation. Leaving

the smallest possible carbon footprint was

the main idea behind the "greening" of

the festival, which is why we insisted that

the hydrogen would be locally produced.

For next year, however, the Cluster would

like to be even more ambitious and

power the entire main concert stage with

hydrogen. "My colleagues from DEVINN

and I are now working out the technical

capacity, and we already know it can be

done! Our installation basically ran on

minimum and we tested that we can do

it in the field conditions of the festival,

so why not power the whole stage.

Maybe in time we'll get to the point

where Colours is completely hydrogenpowered and emission-free!" adds Daniel

Minařík. The last hurdles are basically

just the fire regulations for handling

the hydrogen bundles themselves. During

the installation, both the silent operation

of the two independent generators,

their high performance and the remote

supervision of the monitoring of functions

and performance were verified. The H2

Base consumption is 1.5 kilograms of

hydrogen at a power output of 25 kW.

One of the festival's traditional longstanding partners, the Moravian-Silesian

Region, has taken on this question with all

their energy. Together with the MoravianSilesian Hydrogen Cluster, they contributed

to the rich programme, not only with

a moderated discussion on hydrogen in the

popular Meltingpot forum with the fitting

festival name "Colours and Voices of

Hydrogen", but also with the direct

implementation of hydrogen technology.

For four days and nights, a hydrogen

generator "H2 Base" from the development

company DEVINN, which is part of

the hydrogen cluster, was installed in

the festival area. Two mobile fuel cell

generators, located right at the main
