BUSINESS „Designový pokoj“ na oddělení chirurgie Vítkovické nemocnice A Place from the Whole Family Puerperal care at Vítkovice Hospital also boasts a new family style room, unlike any other in Ostrava, as it offers a space to house the whole family. Thanks to the renovation, mothers can now spend the time right after birth with their newborn, the father, as well as an older child. The well-lit, spacious room can also serve the family as a place for socialization throughout the day. The maternity hospital ward was concerned with the comfort of mothers in puerperal care. “We adapted what the rooms were outfitted with according to the needs of family life on the basis of information gained from mothers that were breastfeeding an older child, and wanted to be hospitalized with it, or mothers not from Ostrava. The family room has two beds, social facilities, a changing table, a living room wall, a TV, a radio, a fridge, a microwave and a fold-out bed for a child up to three years of age,” described Mgr. Daniela Drgová, a station nurse at Vítkovice Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. To accommodate full-day visits, the family rooms have extended visiting hours, from 9:00-21:00. “Mothers are often visited by the father along with the older child, and they spend the entire day together, because the room is very large and gets plenty of sunlight. The room can also be used as a double-bed room, which is mostly used by mothers that know each other,” explained Drgová. Designer Rooms at the Surgery Ward At the end of last year, Vítkovice Hospital opened two premium designer rooms at the surgical ward, aimed to mimic hotel rooms. The rooms, drafted by a professional designer, are very popular among patients. Patients stationed here have access to a writing table with a lamp, armchairs with a small conference table, a comfortable adjustable bed, designer furniture, along with decorations and flowers. In addition, the room offers a large TV that helps patients pass free time during their convalescence. “We constantly try to offer our patients better services, and a modern environment is definitely part of that. Combining medicine with hotel service is becoming increasingly desirable, which is why we try to reflect that trend. If our patients feel at home here, their mental and physical condition can easily improve, meaning treatment will be more effective and efficient--which is our ultimate goal. We put a lot of effort into designing every room, and I believe that the patient will be able to appreciate it,” said the director of Vítkovice Hospital, MUDR. Stanislav Jackanin.
