Sports Vehicle StudentCar SCX:

Success at the 61st Annual

International Engineering Fair in Brno

The team of StudentCar from the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology achieved huge

success, quite unique in the long history of VŠB - TU Ostrava (VSB – Technical University of Ostrava),

in winning the Gold Medal in the category of Innovation in Transport and Logistics.

The medals are awarded by a panel of experts to draw

attention to the most innovative projects. The award

ceremony is attended by the Czech Prime Minister and

the government of the Czech Republic, the Chairs of the

Parliament and Senate of the Czech Republic, leading

representation of national and foreign enterprise as

well as commercial attachés of various countries.

Team StudentCar consists of employees of the

Department of Materials and Technologies for Vehicles,

alongside undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate

students. Vehicle development and prototype

production took place at university workshops and

studios.

The StudentCar SCX electric sports vehicle was made

in collaboration with VŠB - TU Ostrava, EVC Group

s.r.o. and TÜV SÜD Czech s.r.o. The vehicle has

attracted attention for its distinguished design and

environmentally-friendly technologies. It is equipped

with a set of four drive units without gear boxes

which makes it unique when compared to both

Czech and foreign competitors. It was the testing

platform when developing a battery pack supplying

the four synchronous electric motors. “This concept

of driving units based on torque vectoring allows our

vehicle to use an active electronic differential gear

which supports the vehicle’s brilliant performance

and running characteristics. SCX rounds the curves at

high speed without any difficulty,” says Petr Tomčík

of the Department of Materials and Technologies for

Vehicles.
