HEALTHCARE
The total number of patients examined
has exceeded 400, with examinations
covering the full range of procedures –
from CT coronary angiography and CT
angiography of the cerebral arteries to CT
angiography of the aorta and peripheral
arteries. The examination usually takes
between 15 and 20 minutes and, compared
with conventional CT, there is a significant
reduction in the patient’s radiation dose
of up to 38%.
Patients come from across the entire
Moravian-Silesian Region. The largest
share comes from Ostrava and its
surrounding areas (45%), followed
by the Třinec and Frýdek-Místek regions
(30%). A significant proportion also
consists of patients from the Opava
and Karviná areas, as well as from more
distant cities such as Olomouc and Zlín
(25%). “Our goal is to offer the whole
region a new standard of CT examinations
in cardiovascular care,” adds Head
of Department MUDr. Holesz.
We Are Only Just Getting Started
The next step is to expand our educational
activities and continue strengthening
the team’s professional expertise. “We are
planning to organise specialist seminars
for doctors from across the region
so that they can become familiar
with the capabilities of this scanner
and know when it is appropriate to refer
patients to us. We are also investing
in the further training of our team so that it
remains at the forefront of the field,” adds
MUDr. Stanislav Holesz.
This plan is also followed by targeted
training for non-medical healthcare staff.
“For our team of radiographers, we are
preparing specialist courses focused on
advanced examination techniques. We
want to be at the highest level not only
technically, but professionally as well,”
says Bc. Markéta Mihulová.
“I am proud of what we have achieved
over these six months. However, we
are only at the beginning of a long-term
process, at the end of which this new
department should become a genuine
centre of a new standard in non-invasive
cardiovascular and vascular diagnostics.
The combination of state-of-the-art
technology, an experienced team
and a systematic approach to patient
care is creating a department with every
prerequisite to become a referral
destination not only for the whole
Moravian region. But what matters most
to us? Helping patients every day towards
more accurate, faster and less invasive
diagnostics. That is our main goal,”
concludes Head of Department MUDr.
Stanislav Holesz.
