Czech electronics in Indian trains – how does it

actually work?

BS: In Indian trains, our electronics are responsible

for safe braking. In rapid cycles, they release and reapply

the brakes to prevent the wheels from locking

and wearing down the rails – passengers don’t notice

anything, but without it, both wheels and tracks would

wear out much faster. Today, it is operating in thousands

of carriages on the world’s largest rail network.

How is the technology that controls a train

developed?

BS: Hardware developers design the architecture

of the entire control system, from the platform right

through to the production data. Software developers

write the firmware that controls the product. The work

is mostly based on existing platforms that are commonly

encountered outside the railway sector as well. The key

is to adapt a specific application to the conditions
