The experience begins with a briefing,
where we explain the fundamental
principles. Then the client gets into the car
with an instructor and gradually
works through different situations –
From steering control and braking
to handling a skid or driving at the limit.
Alongside that, we also run themed events
– Drift courses, track days and racing
experiences. A significant part of what
we do are also road trips, where people
can enjoy driving in unique environments
– For example in Romania, Italy or Dubai,
drifting on snow in Sweden, or taking on
the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
What would you teach every driver
in the first hour?
First and foremost, a change in mindset.
Most people tend to “fight” the car.
But driving shouldn’t be a battle – It should
be a dialogue between the person
and the machine. The car is constantly
communicating – Through the steering
wheel, the pedals, and its behaviour on
the road. Once you learn to perceive
this communication, you start working
with it rather than against it.
If I had to teach someone one key thing
within an hour, I would focus on critical
situations. Putting the driver in a safe
environment where they can experience
what happens during a skid, how it occurs,
and, most importantly, how to handle
it. Because this is exactly the kind
of experience that ultimately makes
the difference in real traffic.
Is it better to try your car rather than
your own?
Definitely – In your own car,
there’s a natural barrier of “I don’t want
to break anything”. In our cars, people
allow themselves to push further,
and that’s exactly how they learn more.
What often surprises them most is what
the car is actually capable of – And how
much of the limit existed only in their own
head.
Can a complete beginner join?
Absolutely – And in fact, it’s ideal. We
work with complete beginners as well as
experienced drivers, and everyone takes
something different away. A beginner
gains confidence and control over the car,
while a more advanced driver moves
forward and gets rid of bad habits.
The whole experience is designed so that
you feel comfortable, but still leave as
a better driver than when you arrived.
What motivates me most is that moment
when someone steps out of the car
with a smile and says, “Wow, I had no
idea.” That’s exactly why we do it.
Petr Cigánek is behind the DRŽVOLANT project,
Which shows people how to drive dierently –
enjoyably, safely and consciously. Over me he
realised that most people spend a huge amount
of me behind the wheel without truly understanding
what a car does at its limits. And it is precisely there
that mistakes, stress and accidents occur.
They have organised more than 130 events across
the Czech Republic, Europe and beyond, operang
in 11 countries and teaching hundreds of people
how to dri or drive on track – while seng some
of the fastest lap mes at circuits such as Autodrom
Most or Silesia Ring, holding records with cars like
the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, GT3 RS or KTM X-Bow RR.
