Surprised You the Most?
Jako starosta města Příbora jsem v manažerské roli
a velkou zkouškou pro mne byly povodně v roce
2024. Na takovou situaci vás nikdo plně nepřipraví –
i když absolvujeme krizová školení, realita je vždy jiná.
Najednou se ocitnete v roli krizového manažera a mu-
síte z minuty na minutu vyhodnocovat situaci.
Klíčové je zachovat klid a opřít se o krizový štáb. Každý
se v takové chvíli projeví jinak. Ukázalo se, že úředníci,
o nichž si mnozí myslí, že neumí improvizovat a roz-
hodovat, v praxi obstojí. Naučilo mě to, že základem
je důvěra, komunikace a silný tým.
Dlouho jsem si myslel, že mě v podnikání posune hlav-
ně práce „za zavřenými dveřmi“ – seberozvoj, ladění
produktu, hodiny u počítače. Dnes vidím, že to nejzá-
sadnější přichází odjinud.
Nejvíc mě vždycky posunuly vztahy, osobní setkání
a být viděn mezi lidmi. Offline svět, akce, rozhovory.
Tam vznikají příležitosti, které žádný perfektní produkt
sám o sobě nepřinese.
As the Mayor of Příbor, I hold a managerial role, and one
of the greatest challenges I faced were the floods
in 2024. No one can fully prepare you for a situation
like that — even though we undergo crisis management
training, reality is always different. Suddenly, you find
yourself in the role of a crisis manager, having to assess
the situation minute by minute.
The key is to remain calm and rely on your crisis
management team. In moments like these, everyone
reveals their true character. It became clear that officials,
whom many people assume are unable to improvise
or make decisions, are more than capable in practice.
It taught me that the foundation of everything is trust,
communication, and a strong team.
For a long time, I believed that what would move me
forward in business was mainly the work done “behind
closed doors” — self-development, refining the product,
and spending hours at the computer. Today, I see that
the most important things happen elsewhere.
What has always pushed me forward the most
are relationships, face-to-face meetings, and being
present among people. The offline world, events,
conversations. That’s where opportunities are created
— opportunities that no perfect product can generate
on its own.
