of Czech
Crown Jewel
Replicas at
the Silesian
Ostrava Castle
The history of the Czech crown jewels is taught
in schools all over the country, and it has become
somewhat of an unwritten rule that every Czech citizen
should see them at least once. The original jewels are
only displayed in Prague once every five years, and
this occasion attracts the attention of many visitors.
“Considering the immense interest in seeing this
exhibit, visitors are not only limited in the dates they
are able to see it, but also in the amount of time they
can spend enjoying their view of it,” Miriam Čechová,
castellan of the Silesian Ostrava Castle, explained,
adding that this concern is not present for the traveling
exhibition of the crown jewel replicas. “Visitors may
also reserve their viewing of the exhibition for a specific
date and time online, which will significantly speed up
the check-in procedure at the castle,” Miriam Čechová
further specified.
The exclusive traveling exhibition “Czech Crown Jewels
At Your Fingertips” allows visitors to see replicas that
were masterfully crafted down to the smallest detail.
The author of the exhibit is one of Czechias, and even
Europe’s best jewelers, Jiří Urban, who also made
jewelry for the likes of Queen Elizabeth II. Husband
and wife Blanka and Matúš Cepek also collaborated
in the exhibits creation.
The exhibition also features the fate of 22 different
rulers across five centuries in the form of information
panels, visualisations and exhibits that aim to illustrate
their rule. “Some of the most interesting features of
the exhibition include a showcase of the Order of the
Golden Fleece and Longinus’ spear, a copy of Maria
Theresa’s ceremonial dress and some examples of
Hussite weapons,” invites Lukas Czopik, exhibition and
educational specialist at the Silesian Ostrava Castle.
Schools also have the opportunity of reserving a visit
with a guide, or making use of pre-made worksheets
aimed at students in the second grade of primary
school.
