The expenses for these energy saving
measures total up to 151 million crowns,
however, the yearly savings they provide
will be around 14.6 million crowns.
These savings have been contractually
guaranteed for a period of 10 years
by the provider. This project serves as
a great example of how buildings can
be modernised to reduce their energy
usage, which in turn also provides
ecological aid to other cities.
“Preparations began in 2021. Our goal is
to decrease the energy demand of city
owned buildings, and thereby decrease
their operational costs. This project
specifically will decrease these costs
by 44 percent. The ecological aspect
of the measures is very important to
us as well. These savings will decrease
emission load by around 2 036 tons per
year, which is bound to make a great
difference. I am also ecstatic that our
savings project won the title of Best
Prepared City-Wide Energy Saving
Project of 2023 in the competition held
by the Energy Provider Association. What
the professional jury appreciated most
about Morava’s largest city-wide energy
saving project was its complexity,” Josef
Bělica, mayor of Havířov, explained.

City-Wide Savings Project in Morava.
It Aims to Decrease Heat and Electricity
Expenses by 14.6 Million CZK Per Year
This year, Havířov will launch Morava’s largest energy saving project in history. The project includes
50 separate measures at 22 venues operated by the city. Some examples of specic steps that
will take place are the installaon of photovoltaic units on the roofs of city oces, rerement
homes and 10 primary schools, replacing almost 19 thousand current lighng units with modern
LED lights, outng over 4 thousand radiators with smart thermostats that eciently measure
and control the temperature of rooms, and even insulang ceilings and roofs. The project stands
out in mulple key ways: First, with the sheer scope of investment into modernisaon. Second, is
the project's complexity and third, its emphasis on renewable energy and smart technologies.
