A New Era For MSV Elektronika. How Will They Enrich the Passenger Train Experience?

DOPRAVA
What are your main goals and priorities in this new
position?
One of the first things I did upon entering the position,
was creating a PR and marketing department.
Marketing, and especially communication on social
media, is something the company has been neglecting
up until now, and we would like to improve this.
We would also like to improve our project management.
For this purpose, I proposed the so-called project
office, where each project manager will be assigned
a specific project, and they will then assemble the
team members they require from each individual
department.
Most importantly, however, it is crucial that we
determine a clear vision for the company and establish
the course we want to follow in the future. Our current
vision and course are outdated and no one remembers
exactly what they are anymore. This is why I want to
work in conjunction with top and middle management
to properly define our mission statement and
the products we want to work on, while shifting more
focus towards development, which has stagnated over
the past few years.
Company processes are another key aspect, which
the company has been unable to standardise for
quite a while now. The crux of the issue lies in the fact
that during the company’s founding in 1997 and
around the turn of the millennium, the company had
around 15-20 employees and over time, as it grew
to approximately 200 employees, nothing much had
changed. We need to update old guidelines and create
new ones for processes that did not exist before. Of
course making sure that these guidelines are being
followed is crucial as well. I also want to uphold a ISO
9001 quality policy and prepare the company for IRIS
rolling stock certification.
What are the main systems you provide for rolling stock?
Our main products are control systems for
locomotives and other rail vehicles. Our flagship
product in this category is the ModuRail,
a 19” modular control and diagnostic system
meant for electric units or locomotives. Any
railway enthusiast in Czechia will know of
the CRV AVV system, which is the train’s central
regulation system allowing for automatic speed
control. This of course also involves displays,
keyboards and sensors that detect where the vehicle
is located, how fast it is going, etc..
Some of our other key products include anti-slip and
UIC certified braking systems, vehicle subsystem
controls (which includes doors, toilets, platforms, etc.),
exterior LED lights, passenger information systems,
and many more. We also have a division dedicated
to switchboards and cable bundles. In this regard,
we offer customers a planning service that optimises
the cabling of vehicles during their renovation. Specific
examples of other services we offer include the
implementation of a ETCS system for the AŽD Praha
company or the update and validation of locomotive
control systems for CZ Loko.
Over the past two years you invested into a new
testing hall and production facility. Could you tell us
more about these projects, and how they will impact
the production capacity of the company?
The brand new and modern testing hall has been
available to any current or potential customer for
almost a year now. The hall is currently not yet certified,
however, we are working to get certified by the end of
the year.
Our all new production facility is now receiving its
finishing touches. The building was transformed from
what used to be a local bakery, and is now fully self-
sustaining, featuring solar panels, heat recovery
ventilation and heat pumps. This will be one of
the most modern buildings in northern Moravia, and is
more than twice the size of our current space.
