INVESTORS IN MSK
Are you preparing any changes in
the functioning and direction of the
company?
In today‘s difficult times, my biggest
goal and challenge is clearly to keep
MMHP in the position it has earned
over its long history: at the high levels it
currently enjoys with top-quality products
while maintaining the level of sales and
economic results. Of course, this is linked
to the need to evolve and use all the
knowledge of modern technologies that
will lead to better productivity, automation
of production and ultimately to an
increase in the yield of the processed raw
material, i.e. wood. We are very happy
that the continuous modernisation of our
sawmill has been, is and will always be in
the interest of our owner, who has given
and is giving all possible support.
In our last interview, Marie Wagnerová
mentioned that you are planning to
automate the production of drying
bales of sawn timber, install scanners
that detect defects in the sawn timber
and other innovations. What stage
are you currently in? Is this idea being
implemented?
We have created a list of required
technical and performance parameters
for the investment in the automation of
slat setting for drying lumber bales. We
are currently enquiring potential suppliers
and evaluating the first offers received,
optimising the specification.
Are you planning any bigger projects
this year? Could you describe them?
We will focus in particular on those
investment projects where a reasonable
timeframe for implementation and return
can be achieved even with the current
limited ability of suppliers.
These are rather standard technologies
that are not developed and manufactured
to order, or are assembled from standard
modules. For example, the renewal of the
electrical/electronic part of the drives, the
renewal and upgrade of the measuring
systems for lumber moisture, the
replacement and increase of the capacity
of the chipping machine in the sawmill,
the renewal of the fleet for the internal
handling of logs and lumber, etc.
The sawmill is part of the international
concern Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding
AG, based in Leoben, Austria. Have you
implemented any Austrian procedures
or strategies in the Paskov production
plant?
Of course. Like any company that is
part of a multinational concern, we
at Mayr-Melnhof Holz Paskov use the
best practices or strategies of our sister
companies. We try to make the most
of the synergies that the multinational
group offers, whether they be synergies
in production, business strategy or
supporting processes. In my opinion, the
exchange of experience within the MayrMelnhof Holz Group is at a very high
level and thus contributes to the healthy
development of the concern.
How are Austrians different from Czechs
in their professional and personal lives?
I believe that the Austrian mentality is
not too different from ours. We are,
after all, connected by several centuries
of coexistence and the intermingling of
national identity. I see the difference in
the forty years of history of both countries
when Austria and its inhabitants lived in
the free world, unlike the Czech Republic,
which lived under a totalitarian regime; they
have a head start on us in the perception of
democracy and its principles. Fortunately,
a generation that is not burdened by the
totalitarian past has grown up in the Czech
Republic, and others are growing up.
Thank you very much for the interview,
Mr Director.
