STYLE INTERVIEW

walking fireflies, para-hockey players, employees of

some Ostrava companies and volunteer firefighters.

When the cycling peloton connects Zábřeh with

Poruba, it will not only be a ride full of emotions, but the

proceeds will also help a handicapped child.

We have also been organising the Miss Grandma and

Dandy of the Year project for seven years and this time

we will extend the activity to the whole of the MoravianSilesian Region. We are expecting four district rounds

and the final round, for which the contestants will

prepare during a two-day training camp. We will

prepare choreography with them, make videos and help

with free discipline. It will be a professional competition

experience. The winner will advance to the national

Grandma of the Year competition.

After thirty-eight years, the phenomenal 'Folk

Carousel' will return to the Treasure. This will be its

tenth season. How did this idea come about?

We were wondering whether we could find a project

in Poklad’s past that used to go far beyond the borders

of Ostrava and that deserved to be revived. The choice

was clearly 'Folk Carousel'. I am very glad that its original

‘father’ and chief dramaturg, Milan Kaplan, got involved

in such a demanding project. The result will be a threeday festival of songwriting from the past and present

in June. Every corner of Poklad, the Amfi Summer

Stage and also the adjacent park, will come alive with

concerts, films and workshops. At this point, I counted

nearly seventy performers. It will be a marathon and

a very challenging event for us organisers. I believe

that we will build on what made the 'Folk Carousel'

a phenomenon—music connected by sharing, meeting,

storytelling.

What are your plans, visions?

Of course there are plenty. I am a person who loves

change and likes to push things forward. I'm currently

living my new dream, which I haven't talked about

publicly yet. It is to give Akord's exterior a new look,

a ‘rejuvenating facelift’. Many cultural buildings are

being built or modernised in Ostrava and we cannot be

left behind. I look forward to presenting them to you.

Ms Daňková, thank you for the interview.
