For FM City Fest, Sustainability

is Not Just a Trend, but a Commitment

Sustainability and the principles of the circular economy are becoming ever more deeply

embedded in the world of cultural events. FM City Fest is among the fesvals that do not treat

this issue as a passing trend, but instead takes a long-term and systemac approach to building

an environmentally responsible model.

One of the festival’s core pillars

is consistent waste sorting, which has

been standard practice for several years.

Reusable cups also play a signiﬁcant role,

helping to substantially reduce the amount

of single-use plastics. The organisers also

focus on preventing waste in the ﬁrst

place. Free tap drinking water is available

to visitors, which lowers the consumption

of PET bottles. People actively make use

of this option, and it has become a natural

part of the festival.

At the same time, FM City Fest supports

the local economy and reduces its

environmental footprint by working

with local suppliers. The festival’s location

is another advantage – as an urban

event, it is easily accessible on foot,

helping to limit transport and emissions.

The organisers also lead by example

behind the scenes, using electric vehicles

to transport performers and gradually

transitioning to digital record-keeping

and communication, thereby minimising

paper consumption.

An important part of the festival is also

the education of its youngest visitors. This

year, a special “waste zone” will be created

in the children’s area, where kids will be

able to try making things from recycled

materials and learn about the principles

of sustainability in a playful way.

“Sustainability is not just a topic for us,

but a natural part of how the festival

operates. We are constantly looking

for ways to do things more simply

and responsibly, while ensuring comfort

for visitors. We are pleased that people

embrace these steps and actively get

involved,” says Mirai Navrátil, the chief

dramaturg and organiser of FM City Fest.

The organisers of FM City Fest are

thus demonstrating that even large-

scale cultural events can operate

with respect for the environment while

still offering a high-quality experience

without compromise.
