Creating a modern workshop at this
type of school was a challenge. The key
to the successful implementation was
the team itself, which was brimming with
energy and desire to build something.
The core of the team consisted of teacher
Petr Caloň together with pupils Adam
Holenda, Krtof Žatečka and Jakub Raška.
The way the team went about sharing
their workshop idea, and decided
to look for possible partners for this
project might sound "old-school". In this
day and age of digital technology and
the internet, they chose the method
of paper and postage stamps. In the end,
their strategy was successful. Two weeks
later, a representative from Alliance
Laundry called to say that a request for
a collaboration had landed on his desk, and
that he was very interested.
It was from the first meeting that
the cooperation with this company from
íbor began, without which the workshop
project would never have been created.
This cooperation and financial freedom
gave the students free hands to pursue
their dream. The pupils were able to build
a modern workshop and choose every
part of it themselves - from tools, necessary
machines and computers, to all the furniture.
The whole endeavour was aimed at building
a place where the pupils could develop
their technical skills. From computer designs
to 3D printing and modifying with tools.
However, the future plan was clear, to start
an after school club, and fully integrate
the workshop into the curriculum.
The collaboration with Alliance Laundry is
ongoing. The first tours are being planned
and something special is in the pipeline
for next year, the possibility of running
apprenticeships for the pupils to give them
more exposure to technical fields.
Although everything is still in its early
stages, both parties are looking forward to
what the future cooperation will bring.
