S tím pak vypluli do světa i oba synové. Tohle bych přá-
la každému, kdo se vrhá na plavbu za kariérou.
It was actually a long-term journey for me, as a mother of
two sons, to find the right balance between family and work.
Fortunately, I have a husband with whom we’ve always
managed to support each other and balance things so that
we could each pursue our work while also making sure our
boys knew they were secure and that at least one of us was
always nearby.
Family and home are like a safe harbour for me—a place
from which it’s necessary to set sail, even on long journeys
and stormy seas, but also a place to return to, knowing
they’re waiting for me there and understand and support
my efforts.
In time, both of my sons set out into the world as well.
This is something I’d wish for anyone setting out on
their career voyage.
Těžká situace je věc úhlu pohledu. To, co je pro něko-
ho v určité životní situaci těžké, nemusí být pro druhé-
ho vůbec náročné. Je to o našem přístupu, pohledu
na věc a toho, jak se s tím chceme nebo nechceme
poprat. Každá těžká chvíle vás něco naučí a vy jdete
dál. Pro mne je to pokaždé, když mě v byznysu někdo
podvede a nedodrží slovo. Odnáším si z toho vždy jen
další zklamání. V každé etapě kariéry nebo podniká-
ní se takové zkoušky objevily, a i když jsem je vnímala
jako náročné, při pohledu zpět se nad nimi obvykle
jen pousměji. Nejhorší bylo asi období před více než
dvaceti lety, kdy můj tehdejší šéf na mne každý týden
řval do telefonu, že nemám výsledky – přitom jsem
firmě za dobu čtyř let přinesla klienty, kteří tvořili asi
polovinu jejího obratu. Tehdy jsem pochopila, že něco
skutečně umím a nemusím se bát blbců.
A difficult situation is a matter of perspective. What might
be tough for one person in a particular phase of life might
not be challenging for another at all. It’s about our attitude,
our outlook, and whether we’re willing to confront it.
Every tough moment teaches you something, and then
you move on. For me, it’s every time someone in business
deceives me or doesn’t keep their word. I always come
away with yet another disappointment. In every phase of
my career or business journey, such tests have arisen, and
though I viewed them as challenging at the time, I often
just smile when I look back on them. The worst period
was probably over twenty years ago when my boss would
scream at me every week over the phone, saying I had no
results, despite the fact that over four years, I brought in
clients who accounted for about half of the company’s
revenue. That was when I realised I actually had skills, and
I didn’t need to be afraid of fools.
