Renáta Svěntková - It Takes Courage and Not Being Afraid. The Café SLADKÉ TAJEMSTVÍ is my Dream Come

the café. They don’t have to worry about
spending a long time finding a parking spot
or returning to a parking ticket or a wheel
lock. It’s a problem in the city centre.
Also, there was no competition here.
Přívoz didn’t have anything like it.
We were intrigued by your choice to
go with a First Republic-inspired visual
concept for the café. What led you to
that decision? How did you come up
with the idea that this style would be
perfect for your café?
I wanted customers to like the space
and feel good here. I was lucky to meet
an amazing woman – architect Blanka
Karhanová – who I approached, and
she shared my vision of a cozy space for
enjoying coffee. Together, we thought
about the concept, and Blanka designed
a great, timeless interior that really caught
my attention and which we successfully
brought to life. I think customers truly like
it and feel comfortable here, which makes
me very happy.
That’s evident, given that your second
café is designed in the same style. You
even have a corner dedicated to Mr.
Jaromír Nohavica. How did that idea
come about? I’ve heard Jarek Nohavica
is a regular at your café and even signed
a photo for you.
When we took over the keys from
the previous café owner in January, we
started renovating. The windows were
covered, so no one could see inside.
Jaromír Nohavica, who lives nearby,
would often walk by and peek in, asking
when it would be ready because he didn’t
have a place to go for coffee. That’s
how we naturally started talking, and
he became a regular guest. I think he’s
happy with it; he has a nice place where
he can enjoy a cup of excellent coffee and
a delicious dessert with friends or quietly
read the paper.
What were your feelings and first
reactions when you opened the cafés
and saw they were a success?
It was definitely an amazing feeling and
the fulfillment of years of hard work. When
you work on something for so long and
finally achieve it, there’s an overwhelming
sense of joy and accomplishment. It’s hard to
describe, but it truly was a dream come true.
Would you offer any advice or
recommendations to women who
have an idea but are afraid to make it
a reality?
If they have an idea and the chance to
make it happen, they definitely shouldn’t
be afraid. If you believe your idea is great
and it will work, go for it. It’s about courage
and not letting anyone or anything stand
in the way of your dreams.
What advice would you give to women
thinking not only about making their
idea a reality but also about changing
careers, perhaps transitioning from
being an employee to becoming an
entrepreneur?
It ties in with what I said earlier. It’s about
having the courage to try when you have
the opportunity. Moving from being
an employee to an entrepreneur is a big
step that requires not only courage but
also faith in yourself and your abilities.
You now have two locations; are you
planning to open a third?
Opening a third location is tempting, but
it’s incredibly challenging, both financially
and in terms of energy. You have to give it
your all. So, we might take a break for now,
but who knows what the future holds...
We’ll look forward to it and wish you
success with any future café as successful
as the first two. Thank you for the interview.
