surroundings. In recent years, we’ve been bursting
at the seams, with full capacity. Theatres, concerts,
events for children and schools, social and club
activities, festivals, senior programs, open-air projects,
film screenings, exhibitions, educational workshops,
dance classes, balls, and conferences. We also rent our
spaces to business clients and help them organise their
events. Last year alone, we hosted over 3,000 events,
and more than 300,000 visitors came through our
doors. That’s truly something to celebrate! And why
does all of this work? The simple answer: the people
who work here. They are simply amazing. Even though
not everything is always rosy, and we do sometimes
argue and frown at each other, we also learn from
conflict and move forward. I’ve been fortunate in
selecting my teams, and something always keeps
pushing me forward.
In your opinion, what role do cultural centres play
today?
Let me correct you: I don’t like the term "cultural
centre." It seems a bit outdated to me, with a hint
of the past. Zábřeh’s Akord and especially Poruba’s
Poklad are among the most modern cultural venues
in the region, and I would say even in the country.
They are modern buildings full of energy. We
influence the quality of life in Ostrava and bring
cultural and social dynamism to the region.
I am a member of the board of the Association
of Cultural Centers of the Czech Republic, which
we established last year right here at Poklad. So,
I see how cultural centres operate across the country,
and I am truly proud of how AKORD & POKLAD are
performing.
You are also involved in coaching. How do you
balance this with your managerial work?
Coaching is my passion. I completed my first training
more than ten years ago, and I absolutely love it. I’m
constantly looking for opportunities to further my
education in this field. It’s incredibly useful for me and
my managerial work, as the knowledge of coaching
helps me find solutions, keeps me grounded during
uncertain times, and gives me drive. I’m a member
of the Association of Integrative Coaches, and we just
held another very successful international conference,
which I’ve co-organised for the past eight years.
Of course, it took place at Akord. It’s wonderful to hear
participants praise the amazing facilities and excellent
services we offer. I’m lucky to be doing work that I truly
enjoy.

Darina Daňková is the Managing Director
of AKORD & POKLAD, s.r.o. For over 17 years, she
led the Akord cultural centre in Ostrava-Zábřeh.
Under her leadership, Akord merged with the Poklad
cultural centre in Ostrava-Poruba in 2018. In
addion to her managerial work, she dedicates her
free me to coaching and mentoring focused on
personal development. She is a co-founder and
board member of the Associaon of Cultural Centers
of the Czech Republic and an acve member
of the Associaon of Integrave Coaches. In her
work, she emphasises human values, innovaon,
and connuous professional growth.
