Operating a Plant is Not Enough. How to Create an Environment Where People Want to Stay?

30 ǀ POSITIV MAN
take initiativebut thats not true. Just think back
to when we ourselves were starting our first jobs. Was
it really that different?
I see it more as a generational clash, one tied to the
level of comfort we live in today. We have immense
possibilities, we give our children things we ourselves
couldn’t have—and then were surprised they want
to maintain that standard? Its not just about them
changing—we all need to adapt. And the way forward
is through understanding and flexibility. At Maxion,
we live by the motto #MaxionPeopleMatter,
which reflects a range of targeted strategies like
#Diversity&Inclusion and the #WeCare programme –
the names speak for themselves.
So what really matters? Its not just qualifications—its
attitude, mindset, and values. We look for people who
are willing to learn, adapt and bring in fresh ideas. Skills
might get you the interview, but its your attitude that
will decide whether you become part of the team!
The automotive industry has been through
challenging times – COVID, chip shortages,
the energy crisis. What have these situations
taught you about leading a company in times
of uncertainty?
Theyve taught me that we must be ready to respond
quickly and effectively. It’s a classic change
management scenario, where transparency is the key.
People need to understand what’s happening so they
can trust our decisions—whether it‘s good news or bad.
Again, this brings us back to the previous point about
trust and how fragile it can be. Especially in turbulent
times, we simply cant afford to underestimate its
importance.
You’re investing in automation and modernising
production. Do you plan to go further
with these changes? Are there areas
where you see room for improvement?
This is where I feel in my element – I love working
with strategy. At Maxion, automation and digitalisation
are among our top priorities, both at the corporate
and plant level. At the corporate level we have a clearly
defined digital transformation strategy that includes
the use of AI, which has been implemented in our plants
for over two years. At the plant level, we are working
with a 3–5-year Digital & Automation Roadmap.
One of the latest results of this strategy, and
a recognition of the effort behind it, is our shift to an
in-line automated process. We won the Industry 4.0
Award in the “Company Implementation” category
for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, organised by the
Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic.
There’s still room for improvement, especially in the
area of predictive maintenance, expanding our existing
AI-driven prescriptive processes, and most importantly,
implementing automation to improve workplace
ergonomics.
Our goal is to create an environment where technology
serves people – not the other way around.
You’re surrounded by technology and processes
daily. What helps you personally stay grounded
and energised? Do you have any hobbies or activities
that help you relax and recharge?
I’ll admit, with this kind of work, there’s not much
personal time – but I always make sure to prioritise time
with my family. I’m also a bit of a “Bob the Builder” type
– I like working on projects around the house. Though
I must say, I’m probably not the best project manager
in this case, as I’m the only one on the team, and the
state of completion reflects that!
I also enjoy mentoring – it gives me perspective
and helps me maintain the energy I need to face daily
challenges. And most importantly, it reminds me why
I do it.
Thank you for the interview.
