According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, roughly
twice as many men than women run businesses in the
Czech Republic, and the total number of entrepreneurs
continues to grow each quarter. In the Moravian-
Silesian Region, the number of registered trade licences
increased from 359,758 to 365,357 between the first
and third quarters. This shows that entrepreneurship
in the region is on the rise and that there is still room
for new ideas. At the same time, Ostrava recognises
that women often face additional challenges when
it comes to starting a business — having to balance
family life, maternity, or other responsibilities.
“We see that women have a lot of great ideas. They
just often need reassurance that they can do it,” says
Lucie Baránková Vilamová, Deputy Mayor for Strategic
Development and Culture. “Entrepreneurship is not just
about numbers. It’s about courage, patience, and the
joy of creating something of your own,” she adds.
Participants meet with people who have real
experience and can offer guidance on taking the first
step, developing a business strategy, or dealing with
everyday challenges. Every idea here has the chance
to grow and flourish through mutual support
and shared experience. This community offers not
only practical know-how but also valuable connections
and friendships that last long after the individual
programmes end.

The Podnikej!!! programme shows that ent repreneurship
isn’t just about plans and numbers, but above all about
courage, know-how, and the support of a community.
The second edition is now open. Anyone with an idea,
the drive to develop it, and a desire to gain practical
know-how can apply and become part of an inspiring
community of entrepreneurs.
