To start the interview, how did you
get into painting Filip? What was your
biggest inspiration at the time?
I got into it at a very early age, and when
it came time to apply to high school and
then college, it was clear that art was
the only way to go. It was about the only
thing I was good at.
You studied at the University of Ostrava.
What influence did your studies have
on your artistic work? Can you tell us
how your academic experience connects
with what you paint today?
I was very fortunate to get into the studio
under the guidance of teachers Josef
Daňek and assistant Libor Novot, who
gave me a lot of freedom and time to
develop naturally. When needed, they
were able to gently push me in the right
direction, recommend inspiration and
resources, or encourage me to work.
Basically the studio was run very freely.
However, I was influenced by several
teachers, for example Václav Rodek
from the studio Malba I. I see this as
perhaps the main purpose of studying at
the University.
The Art Collection of the University
of Ostrava presents the work of students
and teachers and is certainly of great
importance for young artists. How are
you involved in the activities of this
collection and how does this experience
influence your artistic development?
After graduation, the University purchased
two paintings from my diploma thesis.
The paintings were exhibited along
with other works from the Universitys
collection at the very first exhibition
in the gallery of the new Faculty of Arts
building. It is a beautiful space and I am
glad that the curators chose my work.
Your works are characterized by
relatively original, unusual themes,
such as farming, general craftsmanship,
manual labour, and some paintings have
a political touch. Why did you choose this
particular theme for your work? Do you
use them to reflect your own experience
of life outside the city? Or your opinion
of the conditions at the time? What
message is hidden in your paintings?
My paintings are very much influenced
by my " worldly" occupations. Even
