The Automotive Industry in Our Region is Becoming a Key Industry Sector

We are one of the two regions in our country where there
are two final car manufacturers. The traditional Czech
company TATRA TRUCKS, a manufacturer of trucks
with more than 100 years of history, and the world's
leading car manufacturer, the Korean company
Hyundai, producing the most modern passenger cars.
But it's not just car companies. The supplier industry
is strongly developed in our region. We have direct
suppliers to the world's leading automakers, the so-
called TIER 1 companies. Both with foreign and
domestic capital, supplying both components and
entire modules and systems. The supply chain doesn't
end there. It continues with TIER 2 and 3 companies,
i.e. the next subcontracting level, of parts, technology,
as well as services.
The vast majority of companies also have their own
R&D capabilities. TATRA TRUCKS has its own R&D
base for product and process development located in
Kopřivnice. The end result is, among other things, an
electrically driven truck, where electricity is generated
using hydrogen fuel cells.
Experts from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech
are also fully involved in the development phase
of new cars. An example is the cooperation in
the development and introduction into production of
the new KONA electric car.
The automotive industry in the region is far from being
an "assembly plant", but an advanced centre of modern
industry that significantly influences crucial areas of our
lives with many social, economic and technical aspects.
In the social sphere, it represents the absorptive capacity
of a wide range of employment opportunities. It creates
the conditions for the development of education,
including lifelong learning, and thus the need for
educational institutions and schools of all kinds.
In the economic sphere, it delivers high value-added
work, which corresponds to highly above-average
wages for workers when compared to the national
average. It stabilises the development of the region
and develops its contact with the world.
Competition in the technical level of products and
technologies is pushing everyone who is part of
the automotive industry. It leads to an increase in
the resources invested in R&D, leading companies
to invest in clean mobility, digitalisation, robotics and
automation. All with a payback of less than 1 year.
Most of this is being implemented in a very challenging
market environment where not only local but global
competition is present, where only the best will succeed!
We can be proud of a number of companies in
the automotive industry in our region. Every year
the Association of the Automotive Industry in the Czech
Republic announces a competition for the Business of the
Year. For 2022, in the category of up to 250 employees,
TAWESCO Automotive s.r.o. was among the top three,
and in the category of over 250 employees, the first
prize went to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech
s.r.o. These companies demonstrated excellent results
in the demanding evaluation criteria in the area of
development and efficiency.
Sustainable development, towards which the automotive
industry is heading, is thus becoming a realistic goal for
the benefit of all, in cooperation with those who can
influence it.
